I am president of the board of a community orchestra, and I want to get a credit card swiper so people can donate at our concerts and/or purchase ticket for our fundraiser. I have done some research on Intuits, Cubes, and PayPal Here. But now I would like to gather some anecdotal evidence.
Does anyone have experience with these? Preference? Feedback? Hate them? Cautionary advice? I have an iPhone 4 with IOS 5.
I use Square for my business. Love it. No monthly fees, I know exactly how much is going to be deposited every day.
My wife uses Square for her business. Works great.
I agree with the previous posters....love Square and haven’t had any problems with any transactions or with Square releasing payments. Couldn’t stand Intuit...the reader is designed very poorly and wouldn’t fit into headphone jack without first removing the phone’s protective case...PITA.
I use PayPal Here because I have been using PP for online sales for 12 years and it is already integrated into my Quickbooks accounting. Because I have a PP debit card that pays 1.5% back when I used it to pay my vendors, this greatly reduces the transaction costs making it cheaper than Square. Otherwise I believe the costs are quite similar.
Intuit is more expensive than either PP Here or Square and they will never leave you alone trying to upsell you never ending Intuit services.
Square is similar in costs to PP Here, but I’m not familiar with whether they also offer website payments. I am assuming your group also has a website and would want to accept donations or sell tickets on it as well.
Hope this helps.
Same thing here. Tried Intuit swiper and had same problem. PLUS...they are VERY deceptive about depositing your money. They put it on a credit card that THEY issue. WTF?
Got a Square and very happy. Screw Intuit.
Square here as well, love it.
Bump!
I have used Square and PayPal swipers and both have worked fine.
Thanks so much. I really appreciate your taking time to respond. Treasurer has investigated Intuit and did not like that they required back bank statements and lots of info. We have a PayPal account on our website already, so it seemed to make sense.
Just thanks a lot.
Good info here...I will be having to get a CC account...anyone know if PayPal/Square accounts can take CC payments without a card swipe—as in over the phone or internet?
Over the internet it’s easy- your customers don’t need a PayPal account to send you money, they just use a CC.
My fiance’ had a mobile pet grooming business, she used Square, no problem
I’ve been using PAYPAL for 10 years, no problems at all.
I use PP for both online and phone sales. It works great for me.
Thanks to all of you again. This has really helped clarify our decision so much.
You can take a CC payment with the square...you just have to manually enter the information. The rates for the manual transactions are a little higher thought I don’t remember how much off hand.
