The American Flag Daily: The Battle Of Cowpens
The American Flag Daily ^ | January 17, 2014 | FlagBearer

Today marks the anniversary of the Battle of Cowpens in 1781, a victory for the Continental Army in South Carolina. To mark the day, we raise the Cowpens Flag, the United States flag which was flown during the battle, designed much like the Betsy Ross 13-star flag except for the one star in the middle of the circle. Independence Forever!

The USS Cowpens (CG 63) is a Ticonderoga class frigate, and the second Navy ship to bear the name. The first was an escort carrier that saw service in WW II. She was nicknamed "The Mighty Moo" . LOL

Take a moment and read about the ship's coat of arms and motto. Many of the items refer to the Battle of Cowpens.

Right up the road from me. On the other side of the county is King’s Mountain Battleground. Both locations were very important victories during the Revolutionary war.

We’ve been to King’s Mountain, an excellent park, but not yet to Cowpens. If the boys enjoy it, we can plan to take the whole family when things are warmer.
