These are two fascinating films about the scale of the universe. I remember seeing the 1968 version at the Science Centre here in Toronto when I was a child. Another version was made in 1977.
Powers of Ten - A Rough Sketch (1968)
We can’t handle another 0... 8 years is quite enuf, thank-you.
For some estimation calculations, getting the order of magnitude correct is sufficient.

This website presents the universe in powers of 10.
From the smallest particles within the nucleus of an atom to the expanse of the visible universe and beyond, a unique sequence of images displays the relative sizes of objects in our universe.

Here is a truly amazing powers of 10 program from NASA’s APOD website:

Use the scroll bar to move to the near infinitely small to the near infinitely large.
(I know there’s no such thing as being “near” infinity, but you know what I mean)
:)
That first one is very good. Haven’t got to the other yet.
Thanks rickmichaels, extra to APoD.
I’ve used the following to help my kids understand the national debt.
A thousand seconds is a coffee break
A million seconds is a vacation
A billion seconds is a career
A trillion seconds is 315 centuries.
Somewhere in the universe is an alien with 12 fingers watching the Power of Twelve movie.
I saw one of those films back in the 70s. What struck me was how an atom looks like the universe. Could it be that we’re living on a proton or electron or neutron and the sun is the nucleus of the atom? Clap your hands and you’ve ended life on millions of little worlds.
Clapping ones hands initiates neither fusion nor fission reactions, so I doubt any of those little worlds have any inkling :)
I watched the Eammes documentary just last week. They had some of it in the film.
Films like these help put a $17,000,000,000,000.00 debt in perspective.
