STD"s Skyrocketing! Who's to Blame? Homophobes

Bloomberg has this absolutely amazing lede about the rise in STD's. I mean this is one of those that you just have to shake your head at. Not because their slant is atypical. It's just that normally they at least try to hide it...a little.

Gonorrhea and syphilis are on the rise in the U.S., mostly in men who have sex with men, a trend the government said is linked to inadequate testing among people stymied by homophobia and limited access to health care.

Wow. STD's are on the rise not due to homosexual acts but because of homophobes.

And you've just got to love that their other reason coincides perfectly with the White House agenda. Lack of access to health care.

So the direct correlation of man/man sex is essentially tossed aside for the deep dark underbelly suspected causation. So nowhere do they suggest in the piece that perhaps men should kinda' keep away from random sex with other men. No. Because to do so would make them homophobic. And therefore they would become the very cause of the problem they're reporting on.

Wow. Circular logic. That's like in Terminator, John Connor sends his bff back in time to stop the T-800 and his bff becomes his father. I know, right?

Anyway, for those keeping score at home gonorrhea rose 4 percent in the last year and syphilis rose 11 percent, according to Bloomberg. Because...homophobe.

Did it ever occur to any of these politicians that perhaps gay men just don't care about the consequences of their actions regarding sex? There has been millions of dollars poured into prevention and education in the gay community and yet numbers continue to rise for STD's and HIV. At some point we have to ask ourselves how much is enough?

During the time the blood supply was not safe as the AIDS contamination of the supply had started, I had to have a hysterectomy. In that area of a woman's body blood vessels are everywhere to be able to support the growth of a child.

I was surprised when the surgeon told me he would not give me blood even if I bled too much. He would only give me a transfusion if my life was in danger. He couldn't count on the blood or plasma to be safe from AIDS.

I did lose more blood than he wanted as he told me after the surgery it would be longer for me to get my strength back as my body would be making blood to fill up that loss.

Thank goodness he took the contamination of blood seriously as I wouldn't have known to tell him not to give me blood.

Some time in the past several years, I read some homosexuals in California were getting AIDS on purpose so they wouldn't have to keep worrying about getting it. They figured with the better medicines we have now to keep it from killing them soon, just get AIDS, take the meds and go on with their sexual life as they wanted.

Yeah, I am not so sure about the part about not knowing sexual preferences of the patients. Part of the treatment and prevention of these STDs is to determine and notify recent sex partners, so that they can undergo treatment also.

Do these men think that there are anti-homosexual snipers hiding behind the magazine rack at their doctor, listening into their private conversations, waiting to attack them if they admit they are homosexual?

Homophobia is a made-up word. Either it is a warranted fear because homosexuals are dangerous, or it is an unwarranted fear which would make it an illness and disability which should justify treatment and compassion rather than attacks and threats of job loss and financial ruin. If it was the latter, it would be homosexualphobia because homo is a prefix for many things.
