Washington D.C., Dec 13, 2013 / 04:00 am (CNA/EWTN News).- The Churchs welcoming stance on immigration is rooted in the person-centered recognition of human dignity, said one of the leading Hispanic bishops in the U.S. Church.
For us, as Catholics following the example of Jesus in the Gospels there is no way that we cannot be in favor of the immigrant, said Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller of San Antonio.
The Catholic position on immigration is a humane position, he told CNA in a November interview, humane, and therefore very divine
The archbishop spoke at the annual fall meeting of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in Baltimore. Archbishop Garcia-Siller is himself an immigrant from Mexico to the United States, arriving in 1980 and becoming a U.S. citizen in 1998. He currently serves on the U.S. bishops' Committee on Migration.
At its root, the archbishop said, the issue of immigration is about people because it deals with human beings and the dignity of the human persons who leave their homes to settle in a new country. The Church sees the faces of many who are suffering, and are divided as families and seeks to reconnect those families with their loved ones, he said. In addition, the Church asks that Catholics reach out to ease the suffering of immigrants, not because they are citizens but because God created them.
Archbishop Garcia-Siller lamented that many people do not understand the Church's teachings on immigration. Selfish interests, a lack of knowledge, and misinformation about the realities of immigration have led to a poor understanding of both the situation faced by immigrants and the values that the Gospels present, he said.
There is also an unfortunate tendency to overlook or forget the history of the United States, the archbishop said.

SOS... a psychopathic refusal to acknowledge the difference between legal and illegal immigration.
US citizens should abandon churches that approve of open borders and robbing us to support foreign criminals.
Mexicans have abandoned the catholic church in the millions. They have abandoned their country in millions. It must be that the place is nothing but a craphole of chaos. And they want that here.
These bishops are dupes of the baby-killers.
The baby-killing party wants open borders because immigrants vote 70% pro-abortion. With open borders, the baby-killing regime in the U.S. will be permanent.
Not to mention that the baby-killers are also socialists, totalitarians, and persecutors of Christians.
There is NOTHING in the teaching of the Catholic Church that mandates open borders. These useful idiot bishops are spreading a lot of syrupy hogwash.
Yes they do, our country is being colonized and we have to fight it or we lose.
“And they want that here.”
Actually, they don’t want that here. But people escaping the plague bring it with them whether they want it or not.
It is so blindingly obvious that increased immigration will solidify the grip of the baby-killing Democrat party on our government that I am unable to believe in the good will of these bishops. They have to know that they are campaigning to make the abortion regime permanent and to increase the power of the very politicians who are persecuting the Catholic Church.
They can have all the ‘dignity’ they want.......
.....back home in Mehhicco.
WHERE THEY BELONG!
Worth saying again. This is the biggest reason I recently left the church.
Give to Caesar that which belongs to Caesar.
And that includes the right for any country to have a defined BORDER.
churches don’t support the concept of border contol nor do mosques.
which makes for a messy situation for all.
There is nothing any number of bad bishops, priests, or laity can do that can change the fact that the Catholic Church is the Church founded by Jesus Christ. The Church has always had plenty of sinners. Namely, everybody.
Having sinners in an organization is one thing. Having an organization that leads people to sin is another. It is precisely because I love Christ that I cannot love that which calls itself "Catholic" in 2013.
Christ indeed passed the Keys to the Kingdom to Peter, but something went horribly, irretrievably wrong along the way to today. As God gave me the ability of discernment, God wants me to use it.

America is all for Immigration sir. LEGAL Immigration. People following the rules as millions before them did...........
Well if it truly is the legality issue that bothers people, who go on about it, then changing the law to allow them to immigrate legally in large numbers will fix that. Not amnesty, rather opening a simple immigration process for a large enough number to come legally they won’t immigrate illegally anymore. But that is never even attempted by those upset about illegal immigration. The reality is they don’t want latino’s in the nation period, and a restrictive immigration policy is supposed to keep them out and when it fails we want to deport them. We just truly don’t believe the “Give me your poor your huddled masses” anymore.
The real problem, few seem to want to admit, is the reality is that racism is the root cause of wanting to keep the latinos out of the US.
The Berlin Wall would have been just as bad had it been built by the West Germans instead of the East Germans.
When the war breaks out between Mexican squatters and Muslim squatters, we’ll see who is most devoted to their “religion.”
I hope the Church’s can be supported by illegals because the Bishops are going to drive Americans away.
The Church has enough trouble with Homo’s they don’t need to import new problems.
Troll.
That was all leftist lies, and it revealed your racism and hopes for a leftist future for America.
“Humane”? Humane to who, Father?
