Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has asked the departments inspector general to investigate the development of HealthCare.gov.
I am asking the Inspector General [Dan Levinson] to review the acquisition process, overall program management, and contractor performance and payment issues related to the development and management of the HealthCare.gov website, Sebelius wrote in a blog post Wednesday.
Sebelius said she also asked Marilyn Tavenner, administrator of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), to create a position for a CMS chief risk officer. The person would work to mitigate risk in CMS programs.
In addition, HHS will update and expand training for employees on best practices for working with contractors on projects.
The launch of HealthCare.gov was flawed and simply unacceptable, Sebelius said.
While the federal portal is now night and day compared to what it was in October, she said HHS must take concrete action to prevent similar problems in the future.
I believe strongly in the need for accountability, and in the importance of being good stewards of taxpayer dollars, Sebelius wrote.
These announcements come a week and a half after HHS touted a repaired HealthCare.gov, which officials were working to fix by December.
The site, Sebelius wrote, is now working faster, its responding quicker, and we are able to handle larger volumes of concurrent users.

Just over 800k have signed up/qualified for Medicaid.
For a minute there, I thought this was a semi news semi satire site!
After firing at least 5 IG’s (such as Gerald Walpin) in his first year of occupying our White House, for actually doing their jobs, do they really think anybody is actually going to believe their investigation? Half the scandal of Benghazigate is the way the State Dept “investigation” whitewashed everything. Everybody in a position to investigate at this point is a yes-man doing cover for a lawless regime. And anybody who doesn’t know that already is brain-dead.
But this isn’t about accountability or even deceiving the public into thinking there is accountability. This is a way to give the media an excuse to kiss these yes-men’s butts so everybody can pretend the public believes the lies.
What a sick joke this nation has become.
Agree on all points!
An interesting ploy for Sebelius....asking the Inspector General to in a sense investigate herself as well as the web site issues. It sounds like a hi tech shot across the bow warning to Obama, Moochie, and others..”If I go down, you are all going with me!”
Correct. But it was/is intended to Destroy the US medical system.
This is satire, a joke, right?
No, this is standard CYA tactics. Once they start their "investigation" everyone involved can refuse to talk to the press by claiming they can't comment on it because it's "under investigation". The "investigation" will drag on until at least after the 2014 elections, and will eventually find that "mistakes were made", recommend "procdural changes", but fail to find anything that can be blamed on anyone in particular.
He's a sorry bastard no matter how you cut it!
