I figured out multiple desk tops. It was non-intuitive. Never got the touch screen to work on Mint.

I'll stick with android releases for my tablets. I'll have to get picky about which releases, or start rolling my own, because of the apps I'm working on.

A cook shouldn't have to maintain an OS fork just to get his apps to work. ;)

Oh, something I failed to mention about Mint 16 KDE (RC)... automatically catches multi-monitor during boot of Live.. was quite pleasantly surprised :)

There are several live distros that can be run off of a 1GB flash drive. Basically, look at their download size and if they are 950MB or smaller then they can be copied to the flash drive and run as if they were on the optical disk -as in, the system does not try to write to the “disk”. If the distro you are looking at does not have pointers to how to do it from them, simply look at other popular distros from a similar line (Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat -based) for specific steps, or do a search for “boot from usb drive” for more generic instructions.

Quite impressed with the LINUX CAUCUS thingy... more replies in 12 hours than on any Linux forum :D

We FReepers tend to support each other intensely, no matter what the topic or situation.

I have the Puppy Linux iso on a USB, aren’t there other files necessary to make it boot though?

Yes. Although modern BIOSs can boot from USB devices, they can not boot from an iso. You need to burn the .iso to disc, preferably RW so you can use it again I would suggest, and then transfer it over to the flash drive along with the bootimg files on the disc. Do a search for booting from USB flash for more details, as it also depends upon whether or not your particular machine needs to boot certain specialized files first if it does not inherently boot from USB.

Download and install UNetBootin.. it is specifically made to make Linux USBs bootable (as a Live-USB) ;^)

Battlefield 2 from 10+ years ago? If there are any actual servers still online, they’re likely Chinese or Russian rogues.

Battlefield 4 is the latest chapter, and it’s pretty darn awesome. I watch my brother and my uncle play it, and I run a Teamspeak server as well; so I get to listen in on their gameplay.

I played BF3 hardcore for a while, but since I’ve been married, I rarely have time to play video games.

Lol... yeah, I am a bit behind on gmes since the change to Linux ;^)

I’m not sure Linux can handle the graphic engines of the newer games yet, although I WAS able to get Metro Last Light working... looks smooth as butter so far, just can’t get the sound working yet.

The graphics engines work great on Linux. AMD and nVidia both develop drivers for Linux and the graphics cards work exceptionally well. DirectX is a Microsoft concoction, and most games run on DirectX these days, but many open source games and games like Minecraft run on Java or OpenGL, making Linux an exceptional platform for gameplay.

I develop for Minecraft on my Linux machine since Java is just slightly more stable on Linux vs. Windows.

I love it. My friends and I try to build massive structures. I have a server set up and play pretty regularly.

I’ve thought about putting my map out there.. but after I saw a few “griefing” vids, I pulled that thought back.... So much time and effort put in by the makers of maps and areas.. just to have a “griefer” or group of them come in and destroy everything..... What is wrong with those people :/

Btw, I wish there were a few more construction options.. like rope/pullies... I have the sticky pistons worked out pretty well... but they are so big and cumbersome...

Set your server to ‘adventure’ mode, and they can’t touch the landscape. That makes construction difficult, but that’ll keep your custom map intact.

As for pulleys and other fun toys, try Bukkit server. They’ve got some crazy addons like nukes (much larger destruction radius than TNT) and even quarrying drills. I’ve played on a Bukkit server, and it’s a lot of fun.

I want to try Bukkit, but my version is 1.7.2... Will have to wait awhile for the good mods to get updated :p
