A man trying to pay a fee using $2 bills was arrested, handcuffed and taken to jail after clerks at a Best Buy store questioned the currencys legitimacy and called police.

Yep. 2005.
A tale of customer service, justice and currency as funny as a $2 bill
I actually bought a car with a $1000 bill once, back in the 80s when I was in high school. It was neat, and I think the seller got a kick out of it too.
Why??
Kick back, relax, you don’t have anywhere to go that you need to be in that big a hurry to get to.
Ok, fine, you need to sit there while the toll guy counts every single penny. LOL I GOT time to sit.
God has your clock. When you run outta minutes, God has your clock.
After I done gone through the toll, next, you roll up and have about 20 bux worth of pennies.
Think how that burearuKaRATZ in the toll booth is now wishing he had another gig.
LOL, PENNIES FROM HEAVEN!
Bitch is, they HAVE to take them!! ITS FUNNY, REALLY FUNNY.
If I’m the guy in the booth, what do I care? I get paid by the hour. It makes no difference to me if I have to count out a bunch of pennies. It isn’t a hard job.
The only people inconvenienced are the drivers behind. The purpose for the various toll rules (no pennies, exact change lanes, etc.) are for other drivers, who do in fact value their time and would rather not get stuck behind people at toll booths.
But you won’t really block me, because I’ve got an EZ-pass because some people actually spend money to not have to get stuck behind other people at toll booths. I hardly ever go anywhere where there are tolls, and I don’t commute or anything; it is just cool to be able to drive past toll booths.
Cockeysville’s still a nice place (for Baltimore County) but I prefer internet shopping with no sales tax to places like Best Buy. Screw O Malley and Dems in power.
The police don't have a clue when it comes to currency, but arresting him seems over the top.
Cockeysville was fantastic up to the 1990s then Maryland put light rail up there to bring the Obama votes up there to the apartments from the city, where section 8 pays their rent.
When the losers move in more stuff like this happens.
When I was a kid my Grandpa gave us sheets of these things...
When I pay in pennies, no alphabet soup knows from whence I came and to where I'm bound.
Your flash card, as "cool" as it is, lets everyone know every where you go and from whence you came. To each their own.
Some do, some don’t. Country kids usually are more familiar with them than city kids.
A while back a young guy was asking me about a quarter and was wondering if it was fake as he dropped it on the counter and remarked how it sounded different than other quarters. I immediately asked him what was the year on it? He said ‘1964’.
And I said - silver quarter, and as silver was about $40 at the time, I told him it was worth around $8 just on the silver content. That just blew his mind.
Best Buy deserves a boycott over this travesty until they make things right with both the customer and the consuming public.
The police department owes the man an apology as well. What a bunch of incompetent fools we have in this country, in all walks of life.
I wish it had been me. I could have a lot of fun and a looooong paid vacation. My lawyer would do well for himself as well but what the heck.
this happened in 2005??
Do they still have Bill Kidds' Toyota there?
Take yourself to the top of the hill, Toyota man's in Cockeysville...
Bill Kidds'... Bill Kidds' Toyota...
Yes, it does. But so does that satellite.
I make some minor efforts not to be fully on-grid, but I’m using the internet. And my name was in public. So pretty much I’m reachable.
On the other hand, most toll booths take your picture and a picture of your plates in case you drive through without paying, like a red light camera.
What i always hated was those toll roads where you grab a card, and then turn it in later to pay. I was always afraid they’d start using the card to hand out traffic tickets for speeding.
Absolutely agree, The engraving is by far superior to any other US currency IMO. BTW, did you know that several people in the original painting aren't on the bill?
They got chopped off the edges.
I remember when my dad, a navy officer, was paid in $2 bills in the 50s.
**************************
Active duty Navy, 1960-62. As an E-3, was paid every two weeks (360 hours) $80. That amounted to just over 22 CENTS an hour for working in the Catapults Division! Cash received on paydays was $2 bills.
Of course, when outside of CONUS territory, a carton of cigs was only $1 (10 cents a pack) and candy bars at the gedunk were 5 cents. ...At age 18-20, it was all good.
Once upon a time, some intellectually challenged counterfeiters whipped out a batch of $18 bills. Realizing their mistake, they drove to the hills of West Virginia, figuring that to be their best shot at recovery. "Mind making change?" they asked at their first stop. "Why sure," replied the clerk. "Threes, sixes, or nines?"
“Your flash card, as “cool” as it is, lets everyone know every where you go and from whence you came. To each their own.”
Here in Washington state they had a thing on the news that the toll cards are also being used to track traffic routes far away from the tolls. They have the card readers all around town and will ping on certain cards (or may all cards?) to track the time it takes to get from one place to another to see congestion.
But the DOT spokesman assured the reporter that no personal data was recorded. (whew - what a relief! /s)

Years ago I stopped at a convenience store for a pack of smokes and asked for a roll of quarters, too. When I got to the car wash, I found out it was 50 SUe B’s. Later I returned to the store and asked the manager if any of his help had been abnormally short in the past few days. Nope, he told me and I continued on my way.
