Well, Redneck is looking at a job in Maryland again, after the one in Tennessee didn't work out. This time, Hanover. South Baltimore. Anne Arundel County. Big trouble, I hear. But can it be survived? Has anyone dwelt there and lived to tell the tale?
Hagerstown is probably more like living in PA and some other places that are away from the big cities.
My nephew loved living in Baltimore, but he’s a lib.
Pasadena to Hanover, 13.6 miles. Not too bad. And near the water. Could visit the beach often from there.
Hagerstown was pretty redneck in a good way. Big ole truck stop. There was also a Baptist church there that was the most racially harmonious I had ever seen.
Not TOO far to York, PA that you might find more palatable? Maybe an hour’s drive. Also good bit of tolerable MD en route. Wouldn’t a hi-tech job involve a good bit of telecommuting?
I was forced out of Michigan, my home of 48 years by the Governess who destroyed the economy. I found a job in my field in the PRM.(People’s Republic of Maryland) I work in Baltimore down near th eharbor, but chose to live in Harford County, which is pretty red. From what I’ve seen, south of Baltimore is highly disgustingly liberal. Caroll County is really good and conservative. Stay out ot Montgomery and Prince Georges.
People here can’t drive, but they do drive fast. Politically, plan on never having anyone represent your views.
Hanover is pretty nice actually.
The big thing there now though is Maryland Live Casino at Arundel Mills. Lots of investment pouring in, not sure what it may do to the crime situation.
My sense of the place is that there are many military and DOD contractors living in the area and it has always seemed stable to me.
I haven’t noticed an uptick in crime since the casino opened in Perryville.
LOL! Me too. Lanham-Seabrook. We left in 1970 for the Left Coast.
I don’t reckon Paul was keen on getting hauled off to Rome either but from what I have seen of you and gauged of your character I know you will go where your told and praise God for it!
Lived inside the beltway (VA) most of my life but finally escaped. If you live well west or east of the I 95 Balto/DC corridor there are many lovely spots. Mountains or Chesapeake Bay are an easy drive. If you can flex your hours to avoid traffic (or don’t mind commuting) there are great areas. Take your time to find a place to live away from the main drag and you’ll be fine.
Nope.
I have no idea who does.
Sorry!
Obscene.
A lot of that going around these days
I’m still paying the property taxes that applied during the housing boom 8 years ago.
The place has devalued by 2/3rds but the taxes remain the same.
Madness.
Wow that’s terrible. Is there no appeals process where you can go in and litigate your case using real estate comps, etc?
I have lived in Maryland most of my life and I hate it. I have lived in my current home in Bethesda, Montgomery Cty, for 23 years. I dream every day of getting out of here. The people are all very liberal, it’s expensive, crowded and the weather sucks.
If I was you, I’d look in Virginia. It’s bad, but not as bad. My son is a computer programmer and has a great job there. He can also own and carry guns.
Maryland is unsaveable.
wow
Aren’t they supposed to be adjusted annually?
I’ve lived here in Maryland for almost 50 years. If I had a job in Hanover, I would most likely live in either Anne Arundel or Howard County.
Taxes are high, but you should be able to sell any real estate you buy in 5 years or so for more than you paid for it.
Good luck.
Hah. We left in 1968 for TEXAS.
Been here ever since.
