GOP Gains Ground in 'Blue' New York, Connecticut

Although much attention was focused on the elections on Tuesday of decidedly left-of-center Democrats in Boston and New York City, little reported was the major gain of Republicans in two Northeastern states long considered "no man's land" for the GOP. Republicans took considerable new ground in contests for city halls and county offices in New York and Connecticut.

In New York, Republicans re-elected county executives in Westchester and Nassau Counties, captured the mayoralty in Binghamton and a majority of the county legislature in Erie County for the first time since 1977, and won a special election for the state Assembly in Suffolk County.

Re-elected in a county where Democrats outnumber Republicans by 2-to-1, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino will be under fresh pressure to run for governor next year.

An award-winning former radio personality, Astorino is considered one of his party's brightest stars in New York and, sources told Newsmax, assured of the ballot line of the New York State Conservative Party if he seeks higher office.

I don't want them. They're the liberal scum who have us Obama. They're not my countrymen. I want them gone and gone for good.

Secession now.

New York...the only state not to vote yes on the revolution and the city of New York just voted for a communist with over 70% of the vote. Not sure i believe any ground gained by the GOP is worth it.

The 5 Boroughs need to be their own district and separate from the rest of the state.

That’s brilliant. NYC Is as representative of NY State as No Virginia is to Virginia. California gave us Ronald Reagan. Outside of the Bay Area and LA it’s a pretty conservative state.

Another suburban count in NY, Rockland, also elected a Republican executive.

A New York republican is a liberal democrat almost anywhere else.

26 years-old, Erin Stewart’s victory in New Britain is somewhat incredible. That is a very left-leaning town with a large number of Hispanics.

No they are not. I cannot count the number of NYers describing themselves as conservative that I have heard support universal health care, gun control, expanded welfare and general pillaging of the public coffers. Whenever you see NY republican, The proper pronunciation is DEMOCRAT.
