Actually, there are parallels between the firearm bans and registration requirements enacted by the Weimar Republic and those proposed by President Obama, Halbrook, a Research Fellow at the Independent Institute, told The Daily Caller when asked what he would say to those who will argue making such a comparison sounds a bit hysterical. Only law-abiding persons obeyed those laws. Weimar authorities warned that the lists of gun owners must not fall into the hands of radical elements. The lists fell right into the hands of the Nazis when they assumed power. Gun owner data can be misused by the government today just as it did in the IRS scandal, and it can be hacked for nefarious purposes.
That said, he added, comparisons to Nazi Germany are unjustified in a society where a free press and free elections remain, and no one is being herded into death camps.
You claim that registration records played a role in Hitlers war against the Jews. How so?
When Hitler became Chancellor, police were ordered to revoke the gun permits of all who were politically unreliable, meaning Social Democrats and other opponents, including many Jews. In 1935, the Gestapo decreed that gun permits should not be issued to Jews. By 1938, in the weeks before the pogrom known as the Night of the Broken Glass or Kristallnacht, the registration records and house searches were used to disarm Jews in Berlin and throughout Germany. The onslaught could then occur without fear of opposition.

I'm not so sure about the free press here and would note that Iran and Venezuela have "free elections".
Bingo. We can’t take anything for granted in the USA anymore. The “couldn’t happened here” argument is a false security, a naivety.
Agreed.
Human behavior is human behavior. Period.
By the way, miss Romney yet? Just a reminder that the GOP is still the most dysfunctional bunch of asses in America. We have to dump the RINOs.
This just can’t be. I’ve heard liberals say that Hitler didn’t take anyone’s guns away - this is just the fever dreams of radical right wingers. They wouldn’t lie to me about such an important topic, would they?
A little off-topic but relevant.
The background check info for gun purchases is suppose to be deleted, so it cannot become back door gun registration.
One of the amendments to the last gun control bill offered by the Second Amendment Foundation was to add a penalty for the retention of those gun purchase records.
Currently, there is no penalty for not destroying those records per the law.
Ask yourself if we did not have guns here in Amerika right now what do you think would happen? Or would already have happened?
The media and people focus on one big story of the moment, and meanwhile our freedom is being hit on all sides constantly.

I’ve never had any confidence that they were destroyed. If they did pass a law adding a penalty for retention of the records, why would we expect this administration or any gov’t employee to care about abiding by that law when they don’t respect other laws?
parallels between 1930s Germany and today.. I’m shocked.
Comparisons to Nazi Germany are not unjustified.
The Nazi’s confiscated and took weapons after their rise.
Obama is rising and will do the same if we let him.
When the weapons are gone we are a slave State, under the thumb of Government
bump
Hitler was freely elected in elections held by a country in economic shambles.
“no one is being herded into death camps.
Correction: “no one is being herded into death camps, yet.”
"Citizens! Turn in your guns!"
Ever try pulling the gold dental work out of an armed persons mouth?
We already have registration and its been around since 1968. Unless you made a private sale for a gun sold prior to the advent of form 4473 and the FFL didnt have an unfortunate fire or destroyed old 4473s then you can be absolutely positively sure the ATF has taken those and created a registry. In fact back in the Clinton years (I think it was then) the ATF was caught doing just this. When an FFL went out of business the remaining 4473s were taken back to WV and put in a database. That and active FFLs would see the ATF copying 4473s during routine audits. Those they copied were for ‘assault weapons’ and HGs. (This is still happening today.) So, the horse has been out of the barn for quite some time and its likely going to be very very hard to put him back. Anyone who purchased a gun should assume the govt knows and they have no qualms about taking it by force for any reason (even none) at any time.
