Michael Moriarty: Chapter Twenty of Keeping Score in America: The liberal confederacy

Abortion.

The Second American Civil War, as was the First Civil War, will not be about economics and cultural differences. The ultimate dividing issue, as was slavery, will be abortion.

Obama knows this and he is, with increasing desperation, trying to provoke a Second Civil War while he is still President of the United States. While he can still play the Abraham Lincoln role that Time Magazine gave him, while Tea Partiers such as Sarah Palin look like a rag-tag bag of rural "Rebs".

There is "Liberal Fascism" as Jonah Goldberg has defined the Progressively Marxist American Left.

Then there is the reality: The Pro-Abortion Liberal Confederacy mirroring 19th Century America's antebellum South.

How so?

Airs of aristocracy are the most immediate similarities that come to mind.

Conservatives have never been "sophisticated".

Ronald Reagan never was and never will be, particularly in the eyes of the American Left, "sophisticated".

Since Lincoln still defines the greatest of Republican Presidents, the Ivy Leagued and now Harvardized, Democrat Party carries no real similarities to Lincoln, despite what Time Magazine would like to have sold us.

Lincoln's backwoods unsophistication became America's most indelibly American style, the most defining American personality in history.

As my new lyric for the Third Movement of my An American Pilgrimage will declare to the tune of the Battle Hymn of The Republic: "Obama's being sold by Time like Lincoln's doppelganger!"

What would "Abe", if he were alive today, be thinking of the wholesale, legalized abortion contained in the Roe v Wade Decision?

I can't imagine Lincoln being anything other than pro-life.

Meanwhile Obama says about Lincoln, "Lincoln is a President I turn to often."

Yet Obama is the most aggressively pro-abortion President in the history of the United States.

With the help of Time Magazine, the sale of Barack Obama as a reincarnation of Abraham Lincoln?!

Here is a perfect example of the propaganda.

Obama, the most Liberal of Liberal Democrats can share the soul of a Lincoln Republican?!

Why? Because he's forced to.

The defeated post-war Confederate States turned entirely Democrat, if for no other reason than that party had already fought Lincoln in the Lincoln/Douglas Debates and then again with Stephen Douglas' failed run against Lincoln for the Presidency.

The Democrat, former-Confederacy's cri de Coeur: "Anything but Republican!"

And here, with Barack Obama, we have the most Leftist of Democrat Presidents trying to burnish a fading luster with any possible connection to Abraham Lincoln.

The Left is an increasingly worldwide abortion mandate.

As the original Southern Confederacy was pro-slavery, this worldwide Leftist Confederacy of the Progressive New World Order is pro-abortion.

In the plainest and simplest terms, that amounts to legalized murder.

No civilization can survive a formally instituted right of its citizens to commit infanticide.

Roe v Wade is law and order's inevitable suicide.

The end of the Golden Rule.

It is doing unto gestating infants what you would not want done to your own gestating infancy.

The inhuman and inhumane laws of a tyranny such as Red China? The American population is virtually begging for an increasingly tyrannical government by not opposing the Roe v Wade decision.

For giving its citizens a right to murder their own children, the government inevitably expects wholesale increases in its own, ultimately homicidal powers.

Funny, I could well imagine Lincoln being on the wrong side of the abortion issue. While he is to be acknowledged as one of the great presidents who saved the union and ended slavery, two objectives which were indispensable to the survival of America, he did not set out to save the Constitution. In fact, he abused the Constitution more than once in order to save the union.

If I take Lincoln out of his 19th century context and look at a man who was a malleable about the Constitution if he felt a greater good was at stake, I can envision a man who would endorse much of The New Deal, the Great Society, Obamacare etc. Imagine if he thought that global warming constituted a real and imminent threat to America, what would his position be on the EPA?

Is it such a stretch to believe that Lincoln might have thought that a woman's "right to choose" should be protected? And protected by the federal government, a government whose authority he enforced over the states?

Lincoln was a great man, a great president who saved the Union and ended slavery, but he was not a strict constitutionalist, not a limited government man, not always on the side of the little man against moneyed interests such as the railroads, in short, a man for his times but not necessarily for all time.

Both he and his counterpart, Confederate President Jefferson Davis, were well-paid railroad lawyers, were they not? To expect individuals like that to defend the little man is to put John Edwards in charge of tort reform.

Lincoln was a railroad attorney, of course, general McClellan was a successful railroad executive, but I cannot recollect about President Davis. Davis had a well-known military career with a strong career as a prominent federal politician. Perhaps a better informed FReeper will instruct us.

I just read his bio and I was wrong, he was never an attorney. He was a politician, military officer and plantation owner.

Just the opposite, really, but when I’m interested in something it seems to speed me up. Used to live about a 3 blocks from Beauvoir, both pre-and-post-Katrina but never got around to paying my admission and going inside.

The passage of the Texas law was a huge step forward for life. The Democrats have convincd women to vote against their own best self interest.

While I like Moriarty, I think he needs to go back and review his history. Slavery was banned in the south to prevent the south from competing with the indentured run manufacturing in the north. The politicians were all bought and paid for by the deep pockets in the north who were determined to keep the south poor and prevent industrialization... The first civil war, as will be the next, is all about money, money and money....

The left calls Reagan “an actor” as a title of derision and yet so many of the left’s heroes are actors: Jane Fonda, George Clooney, Michael Moore, Sean Penn, Danny Glover, ad nauseum.

How come the left, the most shallow and dumbest people there ever were, get to define “sophisticated”?

If seeing the world as it is makes me a rube while seeing the world as it is not and never can be makes them “sophisticated” then maybe we are using the wrong word.
