Frustrated media groups petition gov't for ObamaCare info
The Hill ^ | November 3, 2013 | Patrick Mortiere and Bob Cusack

A slew of media organizations have petitioned the government to release ObamaCare data that the White House has refused to make public.

CNN, ABC, MSNBC and others have filed Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) seeking information on the beleaguered healthcare.gov website. They have also asked for government documents revealing how many people have enrolled in the new healthcare exchanges.

Journalists have repeatedly pressed the White House and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for the enrollment data, but the administration says it won't do so until mid-November.

Republicans have noted that President Obama has dropped hints he is aware of the enrollment figures. In a recent speech, Obama said "thousands" have signed up. He later indicated that signing up has gotten easier since the website's launch.

Many of the media's FOIA requests are similar, focusing on the website and/or the enrollment data.

For example, MSNBC asks for the "up to date number of people who have enrolled in the government's healthcare exchanges set up by the [Affordable Care Act.]"

ABC News seeks "the documents detailing and describing the actual and potential costs associated with addressing flaws in [the healthcare.gov] website from Oct. 1, 2013 to Oct. 21, 2013."

Some media outlets have asked for internal e-mail communications between key administration officials on the implementation of ObamaCare.

It's unlikely that these FOIA requests will be granted any time soon. Government processing of FOIA requests can take weeks, months or years. However, HHS moves quicker than other government entities on FOIA.

Still, the HHS FOIA office won't be releasing enrollment data before mid November, especially after senior administration officials have suggested they need to first vet the data to ensure its accuracy.

Other media organizations who have filed FOIA requests on ObamaCare include the Huffington Post, Reuters, Politico, National Journal and Time magazine.

The Hill obtained the HHS FOIA log through a FOIA request.

No problem. Just put out an advertisement asking the 6 people who signed up for Obie-one care to call and share their experiences.

It is all a song and dance. We will pretend to investigate perceived problems and you pretend to fix them.

maybe they should have read the bill instead of demonizing people that read the bill and insisted that the politicians read the bill.

The compliant MSM-Obama Media is in a bit of a pickle.

Who are the American people going to believe - the Obama Media or the “you’re dumped” insurance policy letters landing in their mailboxes?

I think the big three (ABC, CBS and NBC) are waking up to the fact that viewers....regular working class people who watch their stupid nightly news....are the ones being affected negatively. Not the poor, not the rich.

They’ve spent months trying to sell everyone on the positive side, and it’s a shock that it’s a cheap Chrysler that barely runs when you drive it off the car lot.

The problem is that they can’t cite any factual data....just personal accounts of people.

This is a charade. They have to pretend to care about journalism. Tow months from now they will declare that Obama performed miracles to save universal health care for all. They may not worship Obama like they did—but they are still communists.

If anyone was enrolling, they’d be screaming success for all the world to hear. Methinks this is the biggest stinker ever.

Bingo! If there’s even a tiny opening for the opportunity to take credit for something Obama will use it.

I’m sure the requested documents will be made available - after the Nov 2014 elections.

In fact everything the Democrats do with regards to health-care in the near future is going to be designed to delay and obfuscate the true scale of the Obama-care catastrophe until after the elections.

I have no doubt that at this very moment Democrat strategists are feverishly trying to come up with some form of emergency grants and regulations that will prevent voters in key states from realizing how much their health-insurance premiums are really going to go up, at least for another year.

The Obamedia wants to act like journalists at this late date, instead of the propaganda arm of the DNC. Fox News had the totally embarrassing numbers of ObamaCare enrollees last week. Maybe you could call Megyn Kelly, you losers.

Exactly right. Don't ever forget this is the ENEmedia. They see the handwriting on the wall. They see the public opinions on Obama and Obamacare and they will now act as though they are nonpartisan. In 2014 they will go back to their propaganda campaigns by either lying with stories that discredit the republicans should they win majority or carry the water for democrats should they win. They will point to these random acts of journalism on Obamacare as credentials of their trustworthiness.
