Its my assessment that these commanders did not disagree with the CIC but told the truth with respect to the situation. It’s the CIC and SOS that were dishonest. Does anyone else sum up the situation as such?

Yes it is.

Way back when, part of my job was to write requests for commendations. When I looked at Hagel's DD214 and saw the two Purple Hearts and just an Army Commendation Medal, I had questions.
Why with two Purple Hearts were there not a Bronze Star or some other higher medal awarded?
I don't ever recall there not being a higher medal along with the Purple Heart.
Anyone have a differing experience?

Disloyalty of this magnitude is a dereliction of duty that we cannot, in good conscience, let slide.” this is very concerning. in military matters, if the 'commander in chief' makes a mistake of that magnitude, it must be made known.
