Pelosi: 2010 Democratic losses were not because of Obamacare
Daily Caller ^ | October 23, 2013 | Alexis Levinson

Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday she did not believe that Democrats’ major losses in the 2010 elections were because of Democratic votes for Obamacare, blaming them instead on TARP.

In 2010, Republicans picked up 63 House seats, gaining the majority and taking control of the House. The losses are usually blamed on the vote for the unpopular Affordable Care Act, which was signed into law earlier that year. Pelosi argued at a press conference Wednesday that she did not believe that to be the case.

“I don’t even buy into the idea that we lost the election because of healthcare,” she said. “One of the most damaging votes that our members had to take was the TARP, 700 plus billion dollars to bail out Wall Street in the view of the public. We didn’t see it that way. We saw it as rescuing our economy from a financial services meltdown.”

“People never even got over that vote,” she argued of TARP. “It really in some ways gave birth to the tea party. Because they did not like what they viewed as the Wall Street bailout. And certainly the Occupy [Movement], who have a good more in common than they may know. But that was really the vote that sort of soured people. They didn’t like that vote at all. And they judged many other things in light of” it.

“I think that was probably the toughest vote members had to take,” she said.

Occupy and the Tea Party have absolutely nothing in common, period.

No she is not correct, not even close.

TARP happened in late 2008. By March 2009 more than 50% equity in the stock markets had been wiped out. Hundreds of banks had failed and were failing.

And yet Obama chose to ignore the financial scandals in 2009 and work on healthcare reform in 2009 coming into 2010.

Healthcare is 20% if the American economy and its delivery was the most advanced in the world.

The American voters were against government run healthcare socialism for all. And yet voters witnessed in 2009 and 2010 how Obama’s people would threaten, intimidate and bribe politicians to vote for Obamacare.

To ignore banking crime and focus on socialized medicine was all the voters could take so they turned into a tsunami in 2010 especially after seeing the corruption among the elite class.

<>At the time of the 2010 election people hadn’t yet organized around opposition to Obamacare...

Maybe, where you are.

But, where I am, the spark may have been TARP but the galvanizing event was Obamacare -- which drove the Congressional vote in 2010.

I blamed the dims for TARP, but according to dims back then, it was someone else’s fault.

Once again, the truth is whatever they say it is at the moment and subject to change without notice.

I wonder what she never got over?

Was she bullied in her private schools?

I really fail to understand how mshe keeps getting returned to CONGRE$$ election after election.

What an embarrassment and statement by her voters.

She needs help, not votes.

Huh? The issue in 2010 was the size, scope, reach, cost and intrusiveness of the Fed gov....of which....Obama Care is exhibit A.

Most of the TARP anger was conservative anger at GOP folks who were strong armed into voting for TARP.....if anything, TARP mitigated what might have been an ever worse Obama Care arse kicking....

Yes, that’s true, I was one that was angry at Republicans because they fell for it.

But TARP is not the reason dims lost big in 2010. Pelosi is delusional, but that’s not news.

People forget that TARP as proposed originally was to relieve the troubled assets...the underwater mortgages.....(thus the Trouble Asset Relief Program) so that the banks would not crash and take the economy with them - you know, start a run on the deposits and ATMs and so on - but what happened was some kind of perverted big bank crony scheme.

But either way, it was NOT what 2010 was about. Maybe some 2010 GOP primaries were about that, but that’s not why the Dems got clobbered. But let Nancy P stay deluded....

They got their butts handed to them over a small bumper sticker that read: Fire Pelosi now, and the voters did.

They primaried and got voted out people who had voted for TARP in 2010. 2012 was more about Obamacare
