That’s kinda what they used to do in the 60s. Schools got some of the commodities too. They had the best cheese there was available. Much better than you could get in the grocery.
Yeh, the current recipients in Missouri average $10.00 per hour in benfits.
Most people who have jobs here, get paid $8.50 per hour, with no extra benefits, and taxes deducted.
Yep, Marcella, it is possible to grow the food you need and still have complete nutrition. Grains, Beans, Veggies and fruits. This is how my grandparents made it through the great depression-they grew their own.
We have been experimently with all different kinds of foods in our gardens, and noting which are reliable and easiest to grow in our environment.
Thanks for your kind words about the garden thread. I am so grateful that people are able to benefit from our friendly discussions. Everyone is welcome to jump right in.
For anyone who would like to explore the subject just a wee bit, I ran across a publication a while ago entitled: Food For The Future, Now - A Survial Garden Plan.
They have worked out all the nutritional requirements and crops to grow. They also considered the nutritional requirements of the soil to grow the crops, so that you can replenish the soil, avoid depleting it, and be self sufficient in providing food for you and your family.
It’s just a pamphlet of about 45 pages. I ordered it from Boutiful Gardens. A quick read for anyone that is interested. It could be very helpful to get a person thinking and starting to learn the skills they need.
experimently = experimenting

Well I have been watching "Survivorman" Les Stroud for years, so I intend to grab my handy pocket knife, put my bandana on my head, secure a water source, and starve till someone comes to pick me up.
I don’t think watercress grows wild around here

Pacific DL-155 Shot shell re-loader. 12 and 20 ga.

Seriously, you gotta wonder about that guy.
He eats two bugs in a week, and that’s “surviving off the land.”
Don’t know too much about his taste for watercress, but I knew the guy was a total narcissist when he moved his two suburban raised tween kids to his homestead forty miles from any artificial light source.
If you wanna play Little House on the Prairie with your family, either start’em out that way, or wait till they’re frickin’ grown.
What a tool.
47.6 million Americans are about to have their food stamp benefits cut,November 1st and most of them have absolutely no idea that it is about to happen.
...” Forty-seven million people use EBT now. Nobody even pays attention now”....
I do, and I think others do as well...especially those who work and aren’t on any gov. assistance.
I buy cat food at a Dollar store on my way home when I run out....I’ve seen several people...most extremely overweight...load up on candy, snacks, etc. and hand over their EBT card. The manager said they get them all the time.....
Hi MHGinTN....just wondering do you prep?
I just started doing it, though I always have had prep for electrical outs etc. This is a different intent now.
I’m all electric here so I’m planning on getting a small kersoene heater, which the folks here recommended.

Not making fun of your pink gun at all, I keep putting aside the pink paint job on the ole 12-gauge myself. Me, I don’t care if the jury laughs when the prosecutor holds it aloft - I just wanna leave with my freedom if ever I must defend myself twice: once at home & again in a court of law.
