Ted Cruz isn’t Rand Paul or Marco Rubio. Here’s yet another reason why.
Washington Post - The Fix ^ | October 21, 2013 | Sean Sullivan

Posted on 10/21/2013 7:40:15 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

".............Paul has signaled that if he runs for president in 2016, he won’t do it the way his father did, by mostly shunning the GOP establishment. Instead, he is expected to cultivate relationships with Republicans like McConnell, whose help making inroads with establishment donors could be very, very useful.

Rubio clearly isn’t shunning the establishment, either. He worked on crafting an immigration reform bill earlier this year, something the establishment wing of the party has been clamoring for in the wake of a disappointing election in which Republicans performed poorly among Hispanics. And he didn’t hesitate to back McConnell, even as the Kentuckian faces an opponent backed by a national conservative group, the Senate Conservatives Fund.

But Cruz is charting an entirely different path. He’s noted that he didn’t come to the Senate to make friends. And he’s not going to back any of his colleagues in primaries, an even more stinging posture considering that he is vice chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, a group that is dedicated to incumbent protection.

What’s more, during the government shutdown standoff, Cruz led the charge to defund the Affordable Care Act, further alienating himself from many leading Republicans. Rubio and Paul were very much in the background during that period.

Rubio, Paul and Cruz all arrived in the Senate in similar ways. Each of them defeated higher-profile Republican primary opponents. Where did their paths diverge? When they got to the Senate. Paul and Rubio clearly see value in playing nice. Cruz clearly does not.

Again, no more "Big Government (Brother) knows-best", Republicans, no matter how they got to Washington!

Big Government (Brother) types always climb in bed with pro-government lobbyists to expand this program or that!

Their main job then becomes solely about staying in office and that takes sleeping with more and more lobbyists!!!

In the end, we always wind up with bigger and bigger government and more unelected bureaucrats mandating your life!

Nope, no more Rubio's, no more Paul's for me!!!

The democrat/media complex is TRYING to do their normal marginalization and destruction of Cruz, the one they pull on every attempted leader with an (R) behind his or her name.

Right now, it's not working, and they don't see it yet. This may be a shift in the tides, and he may be the right person to ride the wave of anti-Bambi sentiment.

One thing for certain, they will keep trying different ways to take him down, they're not going to stop.

If he wants to stay in the senate he’ll be fine. But beyond that, he’ll run into trouble with his very high negatives among the non-tea party electorate (about 80% of the voting population).

Right, is that the 80% that wants socialized medicine and higher taxes? Just want that clarified.

“Reagan was a bumbling actor who hadn’t a chance”

Reagan and Cruz have almost nothing in common. Reagan was a former democrat and the governor of a liberal state. They are both conservatives but their styles are completely different.

No the jury is not out as far as I am concerned. Rand is his dad with more caution about what he says until he gets elected and Rubio is a GOP-e all the way!

Some. It's also includes a large % of those more interested in the exported jobs economy and the cost of being world policeman.

Everyone should take 10 minutes to absorb this and then share it (and ask them to share it).

I'm sure you being the Rand Paul flack you are, you really, really, really, really hope that propaganda is true.

Keep hoping for it though, the Moon maybe made of green cheese as well.

Little known fact was that Ronald Reagan was down over 30% percentage points in polling to Jimmy Carter leading into the election of 1980.

The concern trolls of his time were spewing the same nonsense you just did.

Garbage.

The only thing that is different, and it is of minor importance, is their method of delivery.

Reagan used more humor.

Both were/are Awesome communicators.

Both were/are steadfast in their adherence to conservative principles.

Both were/are fearless in attacking the status quo in their own party.

Of anything of importance, they are like peas-in-a-pod.

Cruz can win over people quite easily as a candidate. 95% of the country couldn’t pick Ted Cruz of out of a lineup of three people. Bachmann was doing just fine until she went wacka-adoodle about Perry. I was not a supporter, but was pleasantly surprised at her discipline and demeanor in her rise up past the field. Her fall was not so impressive.

Le't lose with a RINO again™

Reagan was THE most conservative candidate we’ve seen in almost 50 years. Re-writing him as some moderate from a liberal state is complete garbage. California was quite different just 20 years ago, regularly electing Republican...and earlier producing both Nixon and Reagan candidates.

Yep. And the immediate and comprehensive vehemence is of a 'Palinesque' nature. They are scared to death of Ted Cruz.

THAT is not a bad idea at all! Should have thought of it already. Who can we get to run it, in Texas?

This gets us out of the company of abortion loving RINO women.

The “war on women” meme is not going away, I promise you that, and needs a counter to it, especially if Hellary does run.

The stupid party can’t counter anything.

Great idea!

Oh yeah, I know them. They’re the ones who love being unemployed and watching their children with the hundred thousand dollar college education flipping burgers at McDonald.

I think he has learned something from watching Palin. She was isolated in part by her political handlers (read: Mccain's GOPe), and told not to fight back, then they blamed it on her and watched gleefully while the democrats continued to savage her.

It wasn't until she was driven from office that she started to fight back. In many ways, she's won, vindicated herself, and is remarkably powerful coming out from under the jack boots of the rats.

I think Cruz saw that, and is simply fighting back in the most insidious way: Being commonsensical, staying focused, explaining the obvious to the American people with a smile, simply destroying the image the MSM is painting and fighting back quickly and intelligently. It's hard not to notice whenever he is interviewed by a member of the MSM, he absolutely destroys them with a smile.

He has learned and is learning. It's a sight for sore eyes.
