Yes, I think you are asking for lawsuits if you terminate employees due to politics. But I like the idea of having the staff meeting, saying insurance is being terminated, and now everyone go sign up for Obamacare. They loved the idea so much, now let them go get their health insurance from Obamacare exchanges.
From an article in the Prague newspaper by Prager Zeitungon,
The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their president.
Bookmarked. Spot on commentary. Thanks for posting it.
We are already seeing major employers in retailing and services cutting employee hours to be under the limit of full time, to avoid the insurance requirement.
And, I’m sure any growing small business with fewer than 50 employees will limit themselves, so as to not go over the 50 employee limit. That 51st employee is going to be very costly.
People don’t realize how expensive health insurance is to their employers. They see a piece of it come out of each paycheck for their share, but most employers are paying 3 or 4 times what is withheld from your pay for that coverage. If employees had to pay the full cost of their insurance, they would be shocked at how much it really costs.
As an aside, I wish people understood more about economics and capitalism and what it takes to run a business. The reason you get a paycheck from your employer is because your employer is making a profit, so he can give you a paycheck from the earnings of the business. Adding more mandates and costs to business can push them into the red, which means you may not have a job long term if that happens. I wish more people understood basic facts such as these. I wish they taught this stuff in high school.
I’m betting a lot of other FReepers’ workplace experience with the Obamacare roll-out is similar to mine. Our insurance people held a series of meetings last week to discuss our plan for next year, which thankfully holds the line on cost, at least for now. They then compared it to Obamacare with some pretty telling charts. The low-info twentysomethings in the room, most of whom don’t carry insurance were, to put it mildly, FREAKING STUNNED!
The innovative thing, I thought, is the company is offering a fairly bare-bones entry-level package for the currently uninsured employees which is FAR preferable (and certainly cheaper!) to what they would get under the “Affordable” Care Act. I can pretty much guarantee there will be a LOT of sign-ups!
I am not an Obama supporter, but got fired this week by a small business. Work slowdown was sited, but we just had a 20% increase to employees for healthcare. I don’t know what the increase to the employer was. I can’t help but think I would still have that job if not for all the cumulative effects of the Democrat Affordable Healthcare Mega Law.
Under the communist inspired law, they have no choice but to sign up or pay a penalty/fine/tax/whatever.
Just claim you lost confidence in their ability, like what’s going on with all the military officers these days.
Last night, I went out with a buddy whose wife is a two time B-HO voter. As for him, he’s a political agnostic and remains purposefully ignorant of any issue outside of sports. He has a decent job with corporate benefits, yet they are on the brink of bankruptcy. His wife is nearing a nervous breakdown. I finally had the long anticipated opportunity to ask THE question, last night.... “Soooo, how much is your insurance premium going up?” He didn’t hesitate “43%!!!”.
Them chickens is a-roostin’ right der at home.
I did that a few years ago. I set up my decent people in business on their own (and I still help a few of them with strategic decisions or with planning). As for the rest? They lost their jobs as I shut down my business, and I don’t provide references or referrals for the few Obama voters who used to work for me. We are in the middle of a major battle between good and evil, and those who support Obama are not on the side of good.
So this guy you know had a bunch of thieves and unproductive employees working for him for a long time, but he didn’t fire them for those transgressions. He waited around until there was an election going on and fired them for their bumper stickers.
Doesn’t seem very smart to me.
Here’s an idea. If you have thieves working for you, find out who they are and get rid of them regardless of what bumper stickers they may have on their cars. Get rid of them even if they have no bumper stickers at all. Likewise if you have employees that aren’t doing the job, fire them for that.
A number of business owners on this forum already have.
Actually, he trusted all of his employees too much. He woke up too late.
In Californicator land, firing employees for not doing their job can get you sued.
Firing of people due to financial problems with the company seems to avoid the law suits.
Those who work in gov’t offices can report on the number of BO posters seen there.
Great story, thanks for sharing.
A very substantial percentage of Obama supporters tend to the minimum of work for the maximum of reward. Employers could easily get rid of them by giving them earlier hours and a slightly difficult task. Those that get through that filter will include a lot of pro-union types and liberal *ss holes who know what's best for us but it doesn't apply to them. It shouldn't be hard to fix them for the fall by giving them a job they consider beneath their dignity.
The ones that pass through those filters are probably worth keeping.
Any one who objects to constitutionalist political beliefs is not worth working for.
That is exactly what happened where I work. "We're increasing premiums by 3%, and a much poorer plan is available on the exchange for about 40-50% more."
We are a large company, and we're "self-insured." We hire Aetna to handle the Medical network, and Humana to manage the Dental, but they just do the bill-collecting/paying. The cash reserve belongs to the company, not Aetna. While it looks the same from the Doctors' point of view, the paradigm of the business side is very different because Aetna just sends us a big bill in the end. This is why, I believe, my employer-provided insurance still looks good. We're not involved in the unholy alliance between the big Insurance companies and corrupt government.
Finding how who the thieves are is 90% of the work in draining the swamp. It’s helpful when they self-identify. It’s possible the employer in the anecdote was not aware who was doing the stealing until after he ousted the Obastard voters.
It’s often cheaper to leave the thieves alone if you can pad the bottom lie to make up for it.
