I think Walmart collects from the govt pretending, as its customers do, Oh was it a glitch. Gee, I, well I didn’t know.
No way Walmart is not collecting for this.
If they didn’t collect from the govt, they’d be all over this proclaiming that they let go of a ton of merchandise and the govt didn’t get charged.
But Walmart has been silent. There were no reprimands. No way. That kind of revenue is not on a manager’s task list.
That was a corporate decision.
And any manager would be right to, if he wanted to enforce, the vet memorial riot police.

I always conjure that TV Land montage of Barney Fife saying ‘Nip it in the bud’, and he emphasizes the word. And it certainly is not in any way a racial slur from him.

Wal-Mart has a reason to “eat it.” My understanding of the situation is the State has a policy (the EBT payments go through the States, not directly from the Feds) that limits their exposure to $50 for transactions when the EBT malfunctions as it did in this case. If the State has a policy, I don’t see Wal-Mart bucking it because they lost merchandise, even if it’s many thousands of dollars worth.
I don’t see the State, or the Feds, “quietly” reimbursing Wal-Mart for the loss.
Wal-Mart was the only store this happened to, yet there are surely many other large-box stores around. Why weren’t those stores ransacked? Maybe because they knew they’d be screwed for anything over $50? EBT was screwed up in 17 states that day.
As for why hasn’t Wal-Mart fired people? We don’t know what they did, and they sure aren’t going to share the measures they’ve taken with us. Maybe heads rolled, maybe they didn’t. I can say this: A company the size of Wal-Mart is perfectly capable of spreading the cost to the millions of other customers without anybody noticing it. IOW, they’ll “eat it.”

Meh. I have no special knowledge, so it’s a guess. I’m an engineer who doesn’t work for Wal-Mart.
Doing the same thing and expecting different results is one definition of insanity. When haven’t the repubs caved in? That would be never, wouldn’t it?

Don’t believe it but they say they WILL be investigating fraud. How much you want to bet it doesn’t happen?
Call and put pressure on them to do it.
