(TheBlaze/AP) — Major problems were reported Saturday all across America with the Electronic Benefits Transfer System, as consumers were stuck with no way to pay at registers, notes WBZ-TV in Boston.

WBZ reported that a computer-system upgrade was to blame, while the Associated Press reports that a routine check by vendor Xerox Corp. resulted in a system failure.

People in Ohio, Michigan and several other states found themselves unable to use their food stamp debit cards while shoppers from Maine to Oklahoma had to abandon baskets of groceries because they couldn’t access their benefits.

I never doubted either of you. It is only a matter of time and I believe that if you look down the railroad track you can see the headlight of the freight train.

I’m counting on being able to hold’em at the Perimeter here on the Northside.

Too bad Laz is just inside the Perimeter . . .

Dave Akerly, a spokesman for the state Department of Human Services, said it’s a problem between retailers and Xerox, the company that provides high-tech services. Officials say a routine test of backup systems resulted in a system failure. The glitch extends beyond Michigan to at least 16 other states.

“Beneficiaries in the 17 affected states continue to experience connectivity issues to access their benefits. Technical staff is addressing the issue and expect the system to be restored soon,” Xerox spokeswoman Jennifer Wasmer said in an emailed statement

I can confirm it for California. I went to the store to buy a 6-pack and there was a sign at the door saying the EBT system was down.

I predict major riots in Oakland and Compton if this lasts too long...

Probably just a trial run. There will be more of this in the future and I can hardly wait to deal with the parasites that can't feed themselves.

I really need to get me a machete. Gun would be better, but this IS Maryland.

“At a time when economic anxiety is already high given the budget shenanigans in Washington, denying access to food for low income families seems particularly cruel.

Oh, puh-leeeeeeeeeeze!!! Just like the conspiracy theorists on this thread, she seems to believe this glitch was deliberate. Just like those glitch-ridden ACA web sites, this was bound to happen.

(Then again, she IS from Marxyland)
