(TheBlaze/AP) — Major problems were reported Saturday all across America with the Electronic Benefits Transfer System, as consumers were stuck with no way to pay at registers, notes WBZ-TV in Boston.
WBZ reported that a computer-system upgrade was to blame, while the Associated Press reports that a routine check by vendor Xerox Corp. resulted in a system failure.
People in Ohio, Michigan and several other states found themselves unable to use their food stamp debit cards while shoppers from Maine to Oklahoma had to abandon baskets of groceries because they couldn’t access their benefits.

Judging by the look of most entitlement recipients, they can miss a meal or two.
“I am deeply disturbed by incidents of EBT cards being declined here in Baltimore City and around the country,” Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said in a statement. “At a time when economic anxiety is already high given the budget shenanigans in Washington, denying access to food for low income families seems particularly cruel. We will be ready to provide any resources we can locally to help families get access to food until this problem is resolved.
Notice she does not lay the blame on a glitch, and while not directly blaming the shutdown, that's certainly the idea she intends to be the takeaway.

It’s difficult to find news articles saying “EBT is working” because that isn’t news. If you scan the “Not working” stories you see what — 8 or 9 states referenced at the most? Could be a few more, of course, but hardly the whole country.
But but but.. I thought shutting down the "government schools" would save us all?
