Democrats reject Susan Collins proposal

Democratic leaders in the Senate are rejecting an offer by Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) to end the budget impasse, arguing it asks for too much in return for too little, aides and senators tell POLITICO.

The Collins plan, which was drafted with input from West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (D) and other senators, called for a six-month extension of government funding and a debt limit increase through January. But it asked for a delay in Obamacare’s medical device tax for two years and a requirement for income verification for Obamacare subsidies.

.....This means that there is little time for the two sides to reach a deal — and the talks may now shift to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to try to find a way out of the crisis now that the House Republicans have hit an impasse with the White House. Reid and McConnell met Saturday morning.

Asked about the Collins plan, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said the problem was that Republicans couldn’t agree among themselves.

New Senate GOP plan would raise debt-limit until after 2014 election (3 women to Obama's side) "A trio of centrist Senate Republicans is pushing a plan to reopen the government for six months, extend the debt ceiling until Jan. 31, 2014 and make reforms to ObamaCare.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) is spearheading the proposal along with Sens. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska)....."

Your link has a bad headline.

Collins' proposal is an extension thru Jan '14...not through the election.

Listen, no matter what the Republicans offer -- including accepting EVERY Democrat demand -- the Democrats WILL reject the offer.

Barack Obama wants a default.

Then he can suspend EBT Food Stamp cards in November.

Then the cities explode with rioting card-dependents.

Then he invokes the Emergency Powers Act, dismisses the House and the Senate, and rules for life as a King.

The House should continue to pass CR’s for most parts of the government. Then the onus will be on the Senate (and the Obamaites) for any continued “shut down” of those Departments.

Why did they stop doing that?

Already kicked down the road:

Reid and McConnell talk deal "taking the lead" "Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) are taking the lead on talks to raise the debt limit and reopen the government, according to senators.

Reid and McConnell are working off a six-point proposal sponsored by Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) that would fund the government for six months and raise the debt ceiling until Jan. 31, 2014. Senators view discussions between the two leaders as a promising sign of potential bipartisan compromise....."

Your new link also says the proposal is for a debt hike only through Jan '14...not thru the elections.

that would fund the government for six months and raise the debt ceiling until Jan. 31, 2014.

“The Republicans offered to roll over and clean the Democrats boots, but that wasn’t enough”

The thing to remember about Obamacare is that not even Olympia Snowe or Susan Collins would vote for it. That is how bad that bill stinks.

"The Hill" story doesn't have the same headline as you.

This is the real headline:

New Senate GOP plan would raise debt-limit until January 2014

Your headline has added words which, unless you have other info, don't seem to be accurate.

Interesting.

Curious that Jarrett and Axelrod (and others unknown to us at present) want to crush the pathetic Republicans and the peaceful Tea Party.

The language and imagery they are using has often preceded severe repression and even organized killing, throughout history.

Of course, their REAL enemies are certainly not Congressional Republicans, nor Tea Party demonstrators. In fact, those folks are actually their best friends, in that, after the obamunist's failed coup, GOPers and Tea Partiers are both quite likely to leave the enemy alive.

Jarret, Axelrod, and the rest should be praying that the ineffective opposition stays in place, not trying to destroy it.

If they destroy the GOP and the Tea Party, they will have to deal with what comes next.

The best they can do is Pinochet, or Sulla. On their present course, they will get Cromwell, or Suharto.

Be careful what you wish for, Valerie.
