It’s official. They are shutting all of us down ASAP. Marching orders straight from the White House.
Update: Mr. Meyer emails to add that not only is his business being forced to take losses for the closures, but in some cases the government is making him and the other park management companies buy the barricades that will be used to shut the parks.
Warren Meyer of Phoenix, AZ, is owner and president of Recreation Resource Management, Inc. RRM employs about 400-500 camp workers and managers across about a dozen states. It is one of a handful of companies that have been managing national parks and campgrounds as tenants for years, through previous government shutdowns including the last one in 1995-1996. Those previous shutdowns never closed any of the parks managed in this way, but the current shutdown threatens closure.
The campgrounds are self-sufficient and receive no federal funding. No government employees staff or manage the parks. The management companies pay the National Park Service out of the funds they generate from operating the thousands of campgrounds. So the reason for the shutdown is puzzling to Meye
They should just politely refuse.

Note to Obama: American presidents ought to strive to emulate George Washington, not King George.
If the parks in question receive no funds from the Feds in the first place, what authority do they have to tell him to do anything? Or even KNOW what he’s doing? I hope he’s telling them to fuck off.

To which I say "Good! Let him over-play his hand!" I'm already hearing people mock the "Government shutdown" at work and out on the streets. This may actually work to the Republican's benefit by the time this is all over at this rate.
High time for a few thousand patriots to liberate the Lincoln Memorial. Just show up, take down the Barackades, toss them in the back of a pickup, and tote them to recycling. Then occupy the memorial.
Send a second wave to the Washington Monument, a third to the Jefferson Memorial, Vietnam, and so forth . . . until they arrive at the Statue Of Liberty.
Imagine a flotilla of private boats approaching Liberty Island, horns honking, flares flaring, and sabres drawn.
It's not really even "disobedience", given that they have no authority to be making these ridiculous demands. More like "civil ignorance", simply ignoring people yapping about stuff that doesn't concern them.

Recreation Resource Management, Inc. runs campgrounds in U.S. National Forests. It is an outrage that the Forest Service is kicking people out of campgrounds. Thanks Obama for killing our local economy.

Here in Maine, at Acadia National Park, I heard on the radio day a guy who said he spent the entire day in the park riding his bicycle on the trails. No one stopped him.
He also said he saw hundreds of other people in Acadia today.
I’m not sure if you can drive in.....the people may have been on foot (there are many trails leading into the park from public roads on Mount Desert Island) or bicycle.
