Worst of Three Worlds! House Judiciary Rep. Bob Goodlatte has come out of the closet as an amnesty supporter. Of course, Goodlatte wants legalization, not citizenship–or rather, not a “special path” to citizenship. But he would apparently still legalize more or less the entire illegal immigrant population. Traditional amnesty advocates would clearly jump to accept the plan. …
Goodlatte seems to be hoping he can bring along conservatives by claiming his proposal isn’t as bad as the Senate’s massive bill (and, implicitly, by suggesting it would be better for Republicans by delaying the day when all those newly legalized immigrants could register and vote Democratic). This morning, as I was showering, a thought occurred to me as why there will likely be a GOP cave-in.
For those Freepers who are a bit older - and cinema buffs - you’ll probably recall the film “Network” and certainly, one of the highlights of that film was Ned Beatty’s monologue to Peter Finch, ‘The world is a business, Mr. Beale’.
I think that when push really comes to shove, some chap from Wall Street will go to Washington D.C., gather the GOP together, and recite that particular monologue - with some minor contextual changes - to the gathered Republicans.
And that will be that. When Wall Street speaks, politicians listen.

You are on to something. Amnesty is a bargaining chip along with a massive increase in guest workers. The GOP’s corporate paymasters want more cheap labor including those with college degrees. All of those graduating college with huge loans to repay will find the job market more challenging and with reduced wages.
I can predict that Bonehead will not get amnesty following CW-II.

The reality is there is no stopping amnesty. Get a life and instead of stupid remarks offer a real solution. A few real plans have been offered that could lessen the pain of allowing illegals to become American citizens. Wish I could remember the Republican that offered the best one and it would put the illegals into the system after many years of meeting certain requirements. This idea of just deporting all illegal is childlike mentality. Some pundits must grow up.
What good does a bill “securing the borders” do when we have a president who refuses to enforce the law?

These open-door Republicans don’t think passing an amnesty will make the Mexicans et al. vote for them. They back amnesty because the business lobbyists are pushing it and the Republicans want to keep the pesos flowing their way. These Republican hacks figure that by the time they allow enough millions more latinos to flood in to defeat them in their own elections, they will be financially set and screw everyone else.
Follow the money.
Another reason to burn these elitest Republicans down.

This could be true, but it could very well be psy-ops. Reid has not even sent an amnesty bill to the House to consider and the House Gang of Ocho lost its only three Republican members. This could be bull shiite. Oh never heard about the House amnesty try dying? Of course not only the Washington Post carried the story and it ran on a Friday two weeks ago. When and if it comes up again we’ll have to beat their brains out again and we will.
