Lady M's I "Had a Dream" week frock: pastry sprinkles, dill pickles, and $2700?

I see I’ve been remiss in keeping you up-to-date with the fashion news. In particular I note that I gave short shrift to Lady M’s new 'do, and completely failed to note the lovely frock she was wearing at the official unveiling.

Highlights and lowlights

It was at the screening of "The Powerbroker: Whitney Young's Fight for Civil Rights" last week and MO wore a show stopping, lens challenging offering from Duro Olowu.

Although the media declared the screening, part of the “MLK had a dream” week, to be the official debut of the highlights, they were previously on display at the U.S. Open, where Lady M also sported a Duro multi-print table cloth shirt:

Can you identify the one on steroids? Hint, it’s the one that looks like a tranny. Oh, sorry, that doesn’t help does it?

Nigerian-born Duro Olowu is a lawyer turned-designer, based in London. And you can see why Duro is one of MO’s favorite designers; just like her, after getting his law degree Duro decided to go in a whole different direction, so he no longer has any use for his law license either.

Unique in both pattern and shape, ideal for Lady M’s fashion sensibilities

This is the prototype of the MLK week celebration frock, along side the  one-of-a-kind offering with Lady M’s customized touches:

Duro’s famous “Roselda” dress, starts at a reasonable $2700

The kindest thing I can say is that is one unbelievably ugly (not just unattractive) dress ... both “style” and fabric. A burlap bag with a drawstring would have been an improvement .... on a couple of levels (above the neck and below the neck).

I so wish that Stacy and Clinton would pick her up for “What Not To Wear.” She would be a natural for it.

The cut of this dress is actually very nice. It’s just the use of different and clashing designs on each part of the garment that doesn’t work. If I were planning that dress, I would pick one or two designs with identical colors to feature on a couple of different panels, and choose solids or minimal patterns (e.g. stripes or dots) that match or complement the patterns for the remaining panels. But then, Michelle didn’t ask me to help pick the material for the dress.

I agree the cut of the dress looks good on Michelle...good style for her, the fabric combo is another matter. See my post above. :-)

I agree - I like the cut. I have something similar in a peach linen-blend, but it’s a few years old, so it doesn’t have the uneven hem. The design doesn’t even look bad on Michelle. It’s just the crazy fabrics.

I could make that dress from my scrap bag for about $2.50. The “apron” is odd.

I hate the asymmetrical hem. Otherwise, the cut of the dress is not bad, but Moochelle, with her lousy taste, has to ugly it up with that print.

And the highlights. I will never understand why black women, Asian women, etc., lighten their hair. Light/blonde hair works against their natural coloring.

Overheard at the fitting where her stylist spoke to an assistant:

"...the First Lady came in and I had this other dress in mind, but when she saw my
mama's curtain she went nuts. I don't have the heart to tell her. But look at this check!"

I think Michelle has lost a lot of her booty. But I haven't seen anyone else comment on this.

As we ladies know, even when you lose weight, it is nearly impossible to "spot reduce"--

This miracle has happened to our FLOTUS. (She's had serious lipo)

Those are copies of great English fashion from the ‘60s &’70s. The look was pioneered by Ossie Clark & Celia Birtwell.
