MI:Detroit Police to Mayor Candidate: Get a Gun

Most police support armed citizens, but that is not true of all police, especially politically appointed administrators in large cities.   As the reality arrives, after shall issue concealed carry laws are passed, most administrators come to see that they have been mislead by citizen disarmament ideologues, and admit, even grudgingly, that they were wrong.

The big cities in Michigan fought hard against allowing citizens to carry guns.  Now many opponents cannot seem to remember why.  From freep.com:

Michigan's prosecuting attorneys association led the push against changing the law in 2001. Today, Ionia County Prosecutor Ronald Schafer, president of the group, says it's hard to remember what the fuss was about.
Sometimes, it takes a dose of reality to change a persons mind.  From thedetroitnews.com:

Former mayoral candidate Lisa Howze is recovering from an apparent break-in while she was inside her home on a day she made a controversial political decision.

(snip)

The first patrol car arrived in about 20 minutes, she said. And then another showed up and, finally, an investigative team.

(snip)

“The officer told me it’s time to get my CPL license,” Howze said. “I had resisted for a long time, saying, no, I’m not getting a gun, I’m not getting a gun. Now I’m not resisting.”

Fortunately, Ms Howze was not hurt.  The transformation is interesting.   Ms. Howze has been against allowing people with concealed carry permits into former defenseless victim zones.  From  mlive.com:

"I think that when you begin to bring weapons into those types of areas, into schools and churches, I think it kind of takes away from the purpose of those buildings."

Now a police officer has advised her to obtain her own concealed pistol license, after she suffered from a home invasion by hiding under her bed with her cell phone as protection.   It has been the final straw to a change in attitude.  Perhaps she will rethink the advisability of having numerous areas where she is forbidden from being legally armed.

Many police chiefs and sheriffs have changed their mind, once they have seen the results of shall issue concealed carry.

I wonder if any of them question the credibility of those who gave them the wrong information and made the wrong predictions.

Detroit leads the nation in justifiable Homicides which means people are shooting back at a higher rate than anywhere else in the nation.

So far I've mostly been impressed with the new police chief. He cut the Mayor's security detail from 20 officers to 6. He also ordered cops to stop reporting to break ins by the dozen when 2 to 4 officers is sufficient.

It was a local cop who told us to get a gun.
Originally to get rid of a roaming Pit Bull, but it's "good for other things too" he said.

"I think that when you begin to bring weapons into those types of areas, into schools and churches, I think it kind of takes away from the purpose of those buildings."

"I think" is used very improperly in that sentence.

Clearly very little critical analysis went into taking those positions

They tried to hijack the election as well.

Still trying. The white guy originally won 46 percent to 30 percent. Today it stands at 41 to 34 percent in favor of the black guy.

State has 10 days to vote to certify tumultuous Detroit mayoral race

Personally I'd like to see the white guy win because it would open the door for a black republican to win.

Now many opponents cannot seem to remember why.

I used to write the reporters in Minnesota, when they were all screeching doom and gloom about the pending CCW law, that a year from now they would be reporting, with a sense of wonderment, why crime, road rage, etc. has not increased.

At one point the hysteria was so great I listed the five stages of accepting death, using their headlines. One lib reporter who had a sense of humor said that while it was clever, I was wrong.

I asked her to get back in touch with me a year after CCW went through. I'm still waiting.

The place is a zoo. The police had to be called to the canvassing board meeting.

It would be great for you to email her now and see if you get a response...

You probably would not. It is almost impossible for people to admit a mistake of that depth, but it might be entertaining to hear her response, if she would send one...

Get back in touch with her, and suggest that her failure to analyze that situation with detachment, and the fate of journalism in general, are linked.

Then ask her to get back to you in a year when she says you are wrong. Chances are she’ll be taking UB40.

Howze called police, telling a dispatcher she was a former mayoral candidate who had just completed a news conference.

“I thought that if I explained who I was that it might illustrate the state of mind I was in,” Howze said. “I was hoping for a faster response time.”

Typical lib. We're all equal, She is just more equal than everyone else needing the police.

My grandfather was a Detroit cop as was my dad who retired as an executive Lieutenant back around 1978. Dad was always a staunch defender of the constitution, especially the 2nd. Amend. After once responding to a B & E, he told the old lady to get herself a shotgun......

Maybe she thought so, but it took the police 20 minutes to reach her, when they were told it was a hot burglary or worse. A lot can happen in 20 minutes.

That’s my point. She automatically assumed she would get special treatment by saying she was a government leftie. That fact that she didn’t (we don’t know for certain that she didn’t, 20 minutes may be much better than the rest of the great unwashed receive) is not that relevant. She expected it because of who she is. That says a lot.
