Kentucky Senate race 2014: Mitch McConnell video goes after Matt Bevin
politico.com ^ | 8/12/13 | James Hohmann

Mitch McConnell believes his primary challenger is an unreliable Republican.

The Senate Minority Leader will sharpen this line of attack Monday with a 75-second YouTube video, shared first with POLITICO, built around footage of Matt Bevin telling Democrats during the Fancy Farm picnic the weekend before last, “We’re on the same team here, I’ll tell you that much.”

The video has no narrator. The only voice that appears is Bevin’s, telling Democrats on a loop that “we’re on the same team” as a series of lines appear on screen: He will not commit to supporting the GOP Senate nominee. He told National Review he has “never been a member of a Tea Party.” In 2004, he supported Constitution Party candidate Michael Peroutka.

“Bevin effectively supported John Kerry for President,” the screen says. “Bevin even brags about voting for a fringe candidate instead of George W. Bush.”

Bevin has contributed to two Democrats: former Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and state legislative candidate Wendy Caswell, who now leads a tea party group.

The video also highlights a story noting that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has been highlighting Bevin’s candidacy, “trying to make trouble” for the minority leader.

And the McConnell campaign again highlights Bevin working with Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), “When Bevin’s Connecticut company needed help, he turned to Washington’s most liberal senator…And then, Bevin’s companies got $200,000 in taxpayer bailouts.”

The video, which campaign officials said they might turn into a television ad, ends by saying that “Bailout Bevin [is] not a Kentucky conservative.”

The Bevin campaign said McConnell is trying to distract from his own record.

“Mitch McConnell can make all the misleading web videos in the world, but it doesn’t change the fact that he voted for amnesty three times, the Wall Street bailout, the Fannie and Freddie bailout, debt limit increases, massive tax increases, and pay raises for himself, and now, he’s refusing to defund Obamacare,” spokeswoman Sarah Durand said.

A Bevin spokeswoman did not respond to a request for comment.

Pretty stupid video by the McConnell camp.

I am as conservative as you can get, and I too am on the same team as whoever helps to remove Mitch McConnell from a position of power and influence.

Intersting it was first shared with a left wing web site.

Yep, they are scared. And even cherry-picking what they took out of context, it's not very strong. Typical limp-wristed GOP-E stuff.

Mitch McConnell is a corrupt, loser jerk. Typical of the Republican leadership.

Whether Matt Bevin is any better, I don’t know.

Exactly right. Here is the full Matt Bevin speech at the Fancy Farm Picnic.

Bevin needs to come back hard but with humor. That was part of Cruz’ trick when Dewhurst went down and dirty.

No it's all bullscat from McConnell.

He's running 24/7 radio and TV ads EVERY COMMERCIAL BREAK that do nothing but TRASH Bevin - accusing him of all kinds of evil. Tax evasion, bailouts, lying about his family's business, siding with Liberals (clearly McConnelll is projecting there). It's non-stop. "Bailout Bevin is no Kentucky Conservative" is the main line. But the ads do not discuss any of McConnell's "achievements". You recognize it's a McConnell ad only when you hear him "approve" the message.

Along with that, is a now-daily barrage of direct-mail from McConnell attacking Bevin. One received today is a Wanted Poster featuring Bevin as an evil lying snake oil salesman. The only way you would know that direct mail piece is an ad for McConnell is if you look at the return address. Last week it was a photoshop dictionary page which listed under "Fraud" ; Matt Bevin and went on to describe all his 'faults' as a human being.

It's amazing to me that the so-called 'minority leader' has such an ability to fight, trash and attack his Conservative opponents and base - but nary a wrinkled nose at Obama or the Leftist agenda he supposedly opposes "every step of the way".

I find it AMAZING how congenial and accommodating McConnell is of Obama and the Democrat Party - even going so far as to pressure GOP members to remove their names from a letter Mike Lee is drafting to Reid to defund ObamaCare in the Continuing Resolution fight upcoming. At the same time, this same McConnell has been silent on Obama and the MarxoFascist agenda.

I'm so pissed off at McConnellf or insulting all our intelligence and his lying attack-ad crap, I blogged on the failed post turtle minority leader.

What makes Mitch McConnell a “reliable Republican”? Certainly it is not his fearless leadership on resisting the initiatives of the Current Regime now squatting in the White Hut.

Probably this video is one of the more remarkable tools that Matt Bevin has available in his drive to unseat McConnell. Give the other guy enough rope....

Mitch McConnell believes his primary challenger is an unreliable Republican.

I submit to you, rather, that Mitchie-boy is the consummate Republican...bowing and groveling to Reid, Obama and the rest of the Dem cabal at every opportunity, just like every other spineless piece of milquetoast in the GOP.

It's getting to the point where calling someone a 'Bad Republican' is no longer a serious disparagement...

“how about going after the democrats?”

If we get rid of the worthless democrat handmaiden minority leader, we CAN go after the democrats.

I think Bevin can take Kentucky. McConnell’s iffy. He blew his wad last time and barely made it.

Mitch also claimed Bevin took a bailout for his company... even though he wasn’t with the company at the time.

I just received another four-color glossy anti-Bevin political advisory from the McConnell campaign. Their definitely worried about him, the problem I see is that Bevin isn’t sending out his own pamphlets.

On the positive side I’m not getting their annoying phone calls from the McConnell campaign either.
