Long but VERY ENLIGHTENING. With the help of the power hungry white welfare plantation creating libtards and "educrats", black culture has imploded (along with huge portions of bottom rung white culture)! And if you don't think they will take this country and nearly all the rest of us to the bottom with them, YOU NEED TO READ THIS ONE!! I have several friends who are also retired high school teachers from northern states and they report the SAME behavior beginning years ago.

You are right on!!! Obama has put Black people in further decline on purpose. His goal is to undermine the USA and bring it down, first the economy, which he has already done...and, second the country itself. The clear handwriting of his hate for America is on the wall. Thanks Dick Bachert. It’s cultural, and while originating with one ‘race’, it is throughout the ‘urban’ ‘culture’. As many do, I have occasion to answer the business line. A good part of the time I hear background noise, no voice, usually just a loud TV or loud stereo; otherwise it’ll be the jackass caller having a conversation with someone in the same room as themselves. I give the standard greeting, two, three times, and keep an eye on the phone display. When the call duration reaches 13 seconds with no response, I hang up.

What percentage of today's high school graduates can read their own diplomas? And I'm not talking about the ones written in Latin either.Ten bucks says that in certain zip codes that figure is no higher than 33%...and in all-too-many it's closer to 10%.

What really hit me in this essay is that there are no differentiating groups within the black teen population... not like with whites: nerds, preppies, rockers, jocks, stoners...

Fifty years ago, in my youth, this was not the case in most mid-western cities.

Most schools with a majority percentage of black students had some tough accomplished black teachers. Additionally, the home life did not allow such decline.

What changed? The Great Society reshaped culture, taxes, welfare, schools, academics, crime prevention, and the family. This is the result in some areas.

I was moved reading this. Such a sad situation, and he explains it so candidly.

“We need more Democrats!” indeed. Was this really what civil rights leaders fought for? Was this really why Lincoln pitted brother against brother? For this? Such a shame.

I taught for many years in an urban high school. Something like 60% of the student population was black and 40% was white. Most were poor, and absenteeism was a big problem.

I've seen bloody fights in the hallways, and I've broken up bloody fights in the hallways.

And I've taught the lowest level classes in the school. These were classes with many unmotivated and often disruptive students. Students that I could not reach no matter what.

So when it comes to the urban teaching experience, I defer to no one.

So let me tell you this. This “essay” is pure garbage.

For every black kid that was disruptive, I had many who were trying desperately to get an education under difficult circumstances.

There were black students who came after school for extra help. There were black students who gave up their lunch time for extra help.

And the same could be said for the white students. Some were disruptive, but many tried to go that extra mile.

Sure, urban schools have lots of problems. And the urban culture is a part of it.

But it's odd that the author of the “essay” has nothing to say about the better kids, black and white. Well, maybe not so odd if spreading hatred is your goal.

This essay echoes what a friend who teaches in a predominately black high school tells me.

I do have one little quibble with the essay though.
“will help our black children improve”

They ain't MY children. I have never fathered a black child nor have I ever owned one. I am in no way responsible for their bad manners, illiteracy or uncivilized tribal behavior.

This has been around for quite a while, and it shows up periodically here. I always look it over again, though, and the part that always startles me, because I had forgotten, is this:

There is a level of conformity among blacks that whites would find hard to believe. They like one kind of music: rap. They will vote for one political party: Democrat. They dance one way, speak one way, are loud the same way, and fail their exams in the same way. Of course, there are exceptions but they are rare.

Whites are different. Some like country music, others heavy metal, some prefer pop, and still others, God forbid, enjoy rap music. They have different associations, groups, almost ideologies. There are jocks, nerds, preppies, and hunters. Blacks are all -- well -- black, and they are quick to let other blacks know when they deviate from the norm.

One might object that there are important group differences among blacks that a white man simply cannot detect. I have done my best to find them, but so far as I can tell, they dress the same, talk the same, think the same. Certainly, they form rival groups, but the groups are not different in any discernible way. There simply are no groups of blacks that are as distinctly different from each other as white "nerds," "hunters," or "Goths," for example.

This strikes me as true. One of those things I don't consciously notice, but it is true. It's not to say there are not black individuals whose taste varies from the norm, but when they exist, they just find the white group where they fit in, and drift in with them (if the white kids let him or her, and the black kids don't attack them for being traitors.)

Thanks for your efforts as a teacher. You are to be commended.

There are charter schools / voucher schools with amazing track records with 100% black students doing a great job. Freedom for the educators, getting past the route memory now encouraged by these standardized tests, and bonuses for teachers that deliver results (considering where the students start) are ways to get out of this cycle.

If someone is as cynical as the author of this article, they need to find a new job.

This is the poison fruit of identity politics. There is no attribute of importance but race. This has been inculcated into so many blacks so effectively that they have no self-awareness left worth speaking about.

I can’t understand how anyone is shocked by this essay...This is stuff i’ve known since about the 7th grade...but i’m a white southern male in the deep south...what the hell do i know??? I could have wrote this essay in about the 10th grade....Hate it for good black folks i know...but they won’t dare speak up...Race trumps Jesus and don’t you forget it!

My 9th grade year was at a “black” high school. White kids and a handful of black kids went to class. The rest of the black kids hung out outside or in the hallways; about half the school. Blacks that went to class were Uncle toms.
