How did they get Windsor? I never heard them speak of Prince Charles or Princess Diana with having a Windsor last name. I thought Diana’s last name was Spencer...

There’s been some speculation that when/if he ascends the throne, Charles will take the name George VII. Both in honor of his Grandfather (who was actually Albert/Bertie and took the name George VI in honor of George V) and because there’s a heck of a lot of bad karma associated wtb English kings named Charles.

Prince Philip, the village idiot grandfather, has expressed a desire to be known as King George when / if he ascends to the throne. [Monarchs, like the Pope, can make those kind of name changes.] If so, I assume the Royal Heir would be King George VIII.

Their names change throughout their lives according to the offices they hold. IOW Prince Charles is known ans Wales because he is the Prince of Wales. That name will be dropped shen he becomes King. Then William will be Prince of Wales and he and Katherine will be known as the Waleses.
Right now William and Kate are the Cambridges because they are the Duke and Dutchess of Cambridge. When William becomes King, Baby Cambridge will become the new Prince of Wales.
I was wrong about ‘James’ but I’m right in guessing he’ll never go bald, because Kate’s father has a full head of hair.
Prince Phillip would never ascend to the throne. The crown passes down through the line. Prince Charles, I suppose could take the name George VII but I doubt he would. He’ll be Charles III.
I actually kind of knew all that but my goal was pithy humor which seldom blends well with long list of historical facts.
