11-Year-Old Banned from Class Trip for Eating Chocolate

An 11-year-old girl was sent home from a weeklong school trip because she ate a chocolate bar. Her school’s headmistress found out about the confectionary crime only by snooping on a private letter that Holli McCann had written to her mother.

Holli’s mother Kerri McCann had to borrow money in order to make the 160-mile trip to the Isle of White to pick up her daughter. McCann, who is unemployed and must care for her autistic son, said she has no idea why the school feels chocolate is unsafe.

Teachers ransacked Holli’s room and went through her things. They even removed the lining of her suitcase.

The weaknesses of collectivism show up like so many warts. They are indicators of the life span of the socialist model.

British school. Rules were clear:
Hertfordshire County Council said that chocolate is against the school’s behavior charter, which designates how children are to behave on the trip. "It was made clear that breaking any of the rules within the charter would result in parents being asked to take their child home, as was the case with this pupil,” the council said.
This girl not only brought chocolate, but gave it to her roommates -- and the mother apparently knew, because she says they were "planning a party". So apparently she either didn't read the rules, or ignored them.

I'm not defending the rules, but I would defend a school's right to have rules, and to enforce them. Fight the rule, but don't be surprised if you purposely break the rules and get caught.

Which is the funniest part -- the amount of complaining about getting caught, like she knew they had broken the rules, and were upset they got caught.

Yeah, there are a couple stories about this, out there in the ethers.

Few of them mention anything about serious misbehavior the previous day... So, heck yeah, it's all just about the candy bar! Let's Riot! LOL!

And which is stupider - a school with rules against chocolate or a parent who would send their kid to such a school?

This story is all smoke and mirrors. Imagine if they had found out about the ham sandwich...

In the 30s and 40s, Jews were sorta like chocolate I guess. And against the rules...And Adolf made the rules... so obviously all rules are a good thing....

Or not.

Sometimes the zero tolerance mentality of the right is a thing to behold. Well not of the right. Just of people claiming to be part of it that have no business doing it.

From comments at other sites from people familiar with the school and the family and this incident; it becomes clear that this is not about some poor girl being picked on. It appears it is the hotel that made the rule that no food be allowed in the room as a condition of the school being able to book rooms there. Several people have commented that the family and the girl are known for being bullies.

I’d question what they call bulllying. Maybe it’s true. But it is still an asinine reaction by the powers that be.
