Some things never gonna change, there is always gonna be violence and stupid people.
Self defense for me was when I did not have any other option left and when only option was to shoot and kill. For example if I could not run away, or hide very good not to be seen. I would use any other option first, last option was to shoot.
Attacking them meant when I shoot first, even if I had other options to use first. In reality if I wanted to confront them I would attack them, if I did not want I would use any other option (go away, hide, or sometimes negotiate) then use force as a last option (self defense)
Real life example was two (drunk and high) guys going from house to house and killing and setting houses on fire, clearly self defense (as I understand it) because there is no sense of talking with them and leaving house was no option too. If you hear or see them murdering others, you are not going to be first person to talk sense into them.

The site looks very interesting.
Thanks
No matter how much preparing and getting the survival mindset one does, if the prospect of experiencing what Selco went through doesn’t scare the crap out of you, you’re not thinking clearly.

Interesting article. Missouri’s laws on self defense pertain mainly to home and possessions like car, boat etc.
Different standard for when you are just out in public, but I don’t know all the technicalities. I just know that whenever I was faced with fight or flight scenarios both times my first instinct was fight and then run like an antelope.
This week I ordered about 10 different spices in bulk. I am doing a lot of canning, and couldn’t find dill heads or dill seeds anywhere in town.
Likewise, the mustard seed was non existent except for one store, and it cost a buck for a teeny tiny jar about the size of a ping pong ball maybe smaller.
So I just ordered some bulk amounts of spices that I use pretty often, but don’t usually grow myself.
I also restocked the canned soups we had used up so far this month. I have canned two cases of green beans, and three cases of pickled vegetables mostly cucumbers, but also zuchinni, green beans, and squash.
They are supposed to cure for about two or three weeks before you open them. Then we’ll see if we like pickled green beans and sweet and spicy zuchinni.
I thought this comment from the site was particularily astute:
The Zimmerman/Martin scenario could become very common if our society continues to deteriorate. Crime will escalate. Neighborhoods will organize for protection. People from outside the neighborhoods will be treated with suspicion. If those suspects react violently, they will be killed.
This situation presents a lesson for all of us. If you are in another neighborhood, expect to be questioned. Even if you have a good reason to be there, be calm and respectful to the questioner. You may feel you have every right to be there, but the neighborhood you are in believes their safety is being compromised by visitors and they have the right to defend themselves from those visitors. The person questioning you has been authorized by the residents to act on their behalf, and feels a responsibility to insure their safety. Dont make it worse by becoming defensive in their neighborhood with their chosen watchperson. You will be escalating the situation dangerously be doing so.
Self defense is a CRITICAL part of any SHTF survival plan.
Owning a gun, and knowing how to use it, is an essential part of self defense. Knowing how to use it takes practice.
It’s still possible to buy a gun in most parts of the country, but the ammunition to go with it is now too expensive for most people to afford.
Even .22 ammunition is now too expensive to practice with. (I recently found a major web site that still had a small amount of .22 ammunition — but it cost 8 times more than it did a year ago.)
So... Here’s a suggestion. Buy a self defense gun and enough ammo for defense purposes to go with it. Practice with it at least a little.
Also buy an inexpensive air gun for practice. Practice with it a lot. (You’ll probably find it’s fun too!)
You can still buy an air rifle or pistol for under $100 that will do just fine for teaching a person new to firearms how to actually hit something with a gun. Pellets for an air gun are still affordable as well.
Yes, practicing with the gun you actually intend to use is the best practice. But unless you are willing to shell out really big bucks for ammo, that is not practical. The air gun route is the only affordable alternative I know of.
HEADS UP: Since I enjoy plinking, I recently bought some air guns for just this reason. The inexpensive rifle and hand guns I bought were CO2 powered. Both Cabellas and Walmart were OUT of CO2 in our area. The supply of pellets had also been depleted at Cabellas although they had a limited selection. Walmart was OUT of pellets.
I checked a bit on line and found a few blog comments that a run may be in its early stages on pellet guns. I don’t know if it really is, but it is easy to see how it could.
