Obama on This July 4: Americans Free to ‘Worship’—But Not Freely Exercise Their Religion

In a special weekly address, celebrating the 4^th of July, President Barack Obama said that Americans are free to “worship” as they please—which mirrors language in the Iraqi constitution, but contrasts with the First Amendment to our own constitution which denies government any power to prohibit “the free exercise” of religion.

Obama’s reference to freedom of “worship” rather than “free exercise” of religion is not a new one—but it is a telling one.

Obama speaks of freedom of “worship” rather than the “free exercise” of religion, because at this very moment—on this 4^th of July—he is attacking the free exercise of religion and denying it to Christians of multiple denominations who insist that his administration has no right to issue regulations forcing them into complicity with the taking of innocent human lives. …

This is one of Obama’s most offensive attempts to rewrite the First Amendment. I have a God-given right to the free exercise of my religious faith, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. That right includes an absolute and non-negotiable right to refuse to pay for the murder of unborn children, an absolute right not to pretend that two men or two women can marry in any meaningful sense, and in all respects an absolute right to follow the Bible as written by Moses, Paul, Peter, and others guided and inspired by God.

Any government that infringes on that first of our Constitutional rights is inherently illegitimate. If Obama is trying to provoke a second civil war, that is probably the shortest path to his goal (which may explain why he is so enthusiastic about those evil actions).
