A modest proposal

I have been thinking of late about the coming Fourth of July holiday. (AKA: Independence Day) With the current state of the nation and our daily loss of freedoms once guaranteed I don’t really feel like celebrating something we no longer have. It feels like going to a wedding anniversary dinner knowing the couple both cheat. So what to do? Not go out, ignore the day, throw my hands up and just go with the flow? None of these seem to be acceptable options.

What about some form of protest to show the country and our “leaders” I will not go quietly into the night while they scheme and fraud to increase their power at the expense of my rights. I am under no illusions and know I am marked. By being conservative, Christian, middles aged and non compliant. So again what to do?

I don’t have the resources of a Glen Beck or Rush Limbaugh to organize and finance a march on Washington or even my states capital. I also think they do no good except to provide photo opportunities for those who wish to exploit large crowds and the ones already held had a negligible effect.

My first thought was flying my flag upside down but it is a sign of distress and helplessness and it would have a limited impact.

I thought about wearing a star pinned to my shirt to show I am marked during the holiday, but the Jewish star was a form of compliance with state dictates or a form of surrender to powers too big to fight. It was not the right statement. I want something that shows my defiance to what America is becoming.

I came upon the idea of treating the Fourth of July like a wake. To wear a black armband in defiance and respect to the country and freedoms I once knew. This has several advantages, it is cheap, it will get noticed and like at a wake it will not spoil the party. The other advantage is when people ask why I can just say I am morning the passing of a great nation.

I am mourning a nation that went from misfits, pioneers, and farmers to the leader of the free world in a mere 200 years. Today we are a nation that abandons Americans in foreign countries to die alone when aid was available, a nation that uses taxes as punitive measures and not to fund essential services. A nation that knows I am writing this but can’t find 20 million illegal’s using food stamps.

So what do you freepers think? Do you like the idea? Could we push it to make a statement to the country that conservative’s, though down are not out. Kind of a quiet way of saying in spite of the forces against us we will stand up and fight for what we believe in.

By the way I am not selling black arm bands or promoting a black arm band blog or trying to get a million “friends” on a Facebook page. I just want to float an idea that just might take off.

You need a critical mass of people that agree with you for something like that to work. Such a critical mass doesn’t exist - as evidenced by Hussein’s re-election.

Also, your cause has to be simple - like 3 words simple. Protesting Benghazi, the IRS, etc, all rolled into one demonstration will have no effect. People won’t understand.

Eventually a black swan type event will occur, something that has a chance at creating this critical mass of opinion to flow through all at once. Wearing black arm bands won’t achieve much of anything at this moment.

Not too long ago, psychologists noticed the unusual phenomenon that when Americans see American symbols, especially the flag, their patriotism increases for as long as two week after.

Right now, Americans are in a decidedly hostile frame of mind about the national government. This means that patriotism is currently defined as opposition to tyrannical, inefficient, and oppressive government. Patriotism now means support of the constitution, not the current government.

Meanwhile, more and more, leftists of all kinds are more and more reacting to patriotic symbols and religion almost the way vampires react to seeing the cross and Holy water. They hate, fear, and despise it. So patriotic symbols and expressions of conservative religion are *not* going to advantage them one bit.

The few that embrace religion at all, either endorse some watered down, non-faith oriented pseudo religion; or a hate filled, political religion as preached by Obama’s pastor.

Bottom line: Use this Independence Day, and every opportunity thereafter, to express your patriotism with patriotic symbols, and express your faith as you choose.

For example, tomorrow (Fri) is Flag Day. In the rest of the year is Constitution Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Pearl Harbor Day, Bill of Rights Day, as the major patriotic days. But there is a multitude of other days which present a justification for patriotism.

Coast Guard Birthday, August 4.

POW/MIA Recognition Day, the third Friday of September.

Gold Star Mothers’ Day, on the last Sunday of the month of September.

Navy Day, October 27.

Birthday of the USMC, November 10.

I personally treat Independence day like Memorial day, I go to the cemetery and take care of the graves of my relatives. I avoid the community day that as a child, was the most fun of the year and I’m usually in bed before the fireworks. We have lost our Republic and I don’t celebrate this loss.

I feel the same way. Here's what I posted back on April 11 (I have to say I wasn't too impressed with the responses from my fellow Freepers):

I know that I am not the only American who now thinks that July 4 should be observed as a national day of mourning, rather than celebrated as a day of independence and liberty.

For most Americans, July 4 is nothing more than National Beer, Hot Dogs, Concerts, Parties and Fireworks Day.

The very name of this "holiday" -- INDEPENDENCE DAY -- is made mockery every day by our government's embrace of the "New World Order" and its drive towards ultimate subordination of our national sovereignty to a global government.

As a nation we have virtually renounced our independent republic of laws and individual liberty and now live under a democratic kleptocracy in which our own government has abandoned any pretext of recognizing limitations on its ever growing power.

We have a president who publicly and repeatedly laments that he is not officially a king or an emperor, and blames our obsolete Constitution as the reason why he is not yet completely able to exercise dictatorial power in order to run our society as he and his oligarchical minions see fit.

Our government has stolen and squandered the unimaginable wealth created by generations of sovereign, free citizens of what was formerly the freest, most creative and productive nation on Earth.

It has driven our nation into an unavoidable bankruptcy that no amount of linguistic corruption, accounting tricks and fancy legalese will be able to camouflage much longer.

It has forced our children and grandchildren into a life of state slavery as they will be forced to watch ever more of their earnings be taken and thrown at an unsustainable and increasing debt that ultimately can never be paid off, while they are left to live on whatever pittance the government gives them, or allows them to keep.

We have leaders who brazenly insult our intelligence, flaunt their extravagant lifestyles paid for by money expropriated from our pockets, and DARE to tell us that they have to pass laws regulating virtually every aspect of our lives and economy so that we, their subjects, can find out what's in them.

We have a president who openly claims the right to take away every dollar above some imaginary threshold that he believes citizens should be allowed earn and save.

The magnitude of these and many other disgusting violations of our rights and individual sovereignty are undeniable and indefensible, and cannot help but take us down the tragic road traveled repeatedly by so many nations in the 20th century, and throughout history, to dictatorship, slavery, poverty and ultimately, societal collapse.

So isn't it time that we take over this 4th of July and make the biggest national public demonstration ever against the usurpations and violations committed by our impossibly empowered behemoth of a government whose leaders constantly define themselves as the good guys and lecture us about how we have outgrown our obsolete Constitution because they say we have?

Can we get an AMEN?? Is it possible that all those Americans who understand what is happening, who want to restore our liberty under the Constitution, and especially those public figures who have already established leadership credibility, who already have the resources, the experience and the public personas, can help put together the biggest show of outrage and determination in American history?

Is it not time? We saw how the left turned America on its head in the late 60s. We have been living for decades with the fallout from their demonstrations and marches.

If not now, when? Are we going to make this July 4 a real INDEPENDENCE DAY and send shivers down the spines of those who have usurped the people's powers and led out nation to the brink of desruction?

Or not. Maybe I'll just crack open a beer, have a hot dog, hang out with friends and go watch fireworks.

My intent is not to celebrate its passing but to mourn its loss. Celebrating independence we no longer have feels wrong.

The message is simple “this fourth of July I am morning the passing of independence”. Further clarification if needed. As for critical mass it would be nice but I would not expect it. I just would like to make a statement and maybe just maybe open an eye or two.

Well let them mock and shy away from the symbols I respect. The symbols of the very form of government that allows them to be the jerks they are……..until their usefulness is gone. While we still can I will celebrate what this country was and can be again.

I can see you know exactly what I am talking about. I guess back on November 29 1773 Samuel Adams had naysayers at the mass meeting at Faneuil Hall about the tea in the harbor.

“Mr. Adams isn’t that a waste of good tea?”

“But Samuel what will I drink in the afternoon this very day?”

“But what good will dumping tea do?”

“Why deprive ourselves of our afternoon tea? It’s just a small tax.”

I intend to do as I always do. Gather the family, feed them, entertain them and as 'payment' they will be asked to sit and listen to a recitation of The Declaration of Independence.
Lively discussion usually follows an unplanned moment of silent reflection.

That will work. At least your family in years to come can remember your dinners fondly and the freedoms they once had.

They only mock at a distance. More and more, they are becoming *afraid* of both patriotism and religion. It scares them, because they see that both have power they cannot understand or overcome.

Remember that vampires hated crosses and Holy water because it burned them. Also remember how when the Democrats omitted God from their party platform last time, and tried to put it back in, it was loudly rejected by the rank and file at the convention three times.

Obama has been actively trying to purge the military of Christianity, and when a single congressman proposed that a military religious freedom amendment be inserted in the upcoming NDAA, just yesterday, Obama screamed like he was on fire. Just the suggestion made Obama threaten a veto.

This means something. And it is a very, very good reason to display the flag, and be proud of your religion.

They are afraid they are one of the few vestiges of America they haven’t co-opted. It slows down the total takeover of our society. They repeat the message resistance is futile.

I fly my flag for holidays very proudly for which it stands.
