Gerald Chertavian is a liberal activist, a community organizer who created a non-profit to help underprivileged kids.
As Boston Business Journal writes:
Chertavian is such a believer in equalizing opportunities for underprivileged kids that he founded Year Up in 2000…In six years, Chertavian has gone from successful business entrepreneur to successful social entrepreneur, creating a business model and filling a niche that has Boston and regional companies knocking on his door for the skilled workers they need.
But Chertavian is not welcome as the new chairman of the board at Roxbury Community College because he’s committed the unpardonable sin of being…white.
Community members in Roxbury are opposing the appointment of Gerald Chertavian, CEO of nonprofit Year Up, as the new chairman of Roxbury Community College’s board because Chertavian is white.
In a letter sent to Gov. Deval Patrick over Memorial Day weekend, the group Friends of Roxbury Community College said it is “insulting for Governor Patrick to appoint a white person to head up the body that is the primary decision maker for the college. He is sending a message that although we are a predominantly Black institution, it will take a white person to give you the vision and leadership to take the college to the ‘promised land’ of education. That is the ‘plantation’ type mentality.”

I’m on the faculty (adjunct) at three community colleges. The bean counters absolutely dictate hiring selection for full-time faculty members.

Holder is correct. The nation is not ready for a frank discussion on race. Whites are too afraid to speak up. Blacks want to expand on their affirmative action privileges and have no desire for equality of opportunity. The media refuses to report the truth about racial incidents and preferences. Politicians are invested in the status quo and are too busy feathering their own nests to care.
The seven tragic moments in US history:
1) Arrival of the first slave ship in the colonies and establishment of slavery as an institution.
2) Failure of the founders to eliminate slavery in the Constitution
3) The Civil War
4) The assassination of Abraham Lincoln which precipitated Reconstruction.
5) Reconstruction. The northern subjugation and humiliation of whites resulted in whites subjugating and humiliating blacks when the northern army left as payback
6) The assassination of Martin Luther King. Had King lived, and if he had stuck to his “colorblind” philosophy, instead of the racial preferences demanded by his successors, the nation might have healed its racial wounds.
7) The election of Barack Hussein Obama. Obama could have promoted racial harmony but instead chose the politics of division and politically determined special privileges, likely setting back all of the gains made since the 1960’s.
Slavery and racial division has been a major blight on the American experiment since the founding. Unfortunately at each crossroad events have transpired to take the nation down the wrong path. Perhaps Deval Patrick is seeing the light. If so, I wish him well.

Deval Patirck is a hard core leftist and also the reason we were not allowed to vote o so called ‘ gay marriage ‘ in this state. Even though we had more than enough signatures and our state constitution requires our legislature to ratify and give us the vote. It was Deval who urged Beacon Hill to ignore the entire issue.
“Chartavian” sounds Armenian. If this is so, then he’s Asian-American.
Will this experience wake him up? Nah, he’ll just be more determined than ever to prove his lib creds.
You have set out a calm, objective summation.
Am tempted to try to squeeze in just prior to MLK’s murder, the mid-60’s actions of LBJ. Those actions subtlety reintroduced the “plantation” concept that quite effectively trapped an entire segment of our society in a “free” form of bondage.
Many, and their descendants, have been seduced into settling for less out of life and finding comfort in that dependency form of bondage.

I highly doubt it. IIRC Deval Patrick was in the Civil Rights division at DoJ. A true believer.
The Gov should just say “OK, you want a black guy, I’ll give you a black guy”, and appoint LTC Allen West.
Now being real for a while please note and remember the blacks comments on not wanting whites. Only whites are stupid enough to believe blacks do not resent us and will suppress us if such is allowed. Look and listen to blacks.
