The number of scandals and the speed at which they are both multiplying and growing in seriousness portends difficulties for Democrats in the near future. Nevertheless, they are a slippery bunch and never without a trick or two up their sleeve.
All indications are that these scandals will end Democrat dreams of having useful idiots like Marco Rubio and Paul Ryan help them erase our borders thus giving them a fresh supply of voters. When that scheme ends, they will have to look elsewhere and that elsewhere is Statehood for Puerto Rico.
A movement for statehood for Puerto Rico is perfect trap for feckless Republicans who...

Puerto Rico would become our Quebec, essentially forcing the Federal Government to declare Spanish as an Official Language.

It will require approval by both houses of the Congress; some information says the states’ legislatures must also approve, plus a vote by the ‘residents’ of that territory.
I definitely am not in favor or it, especially when it means they will add two Democrat Senators. The Democrats should also start picking which seats they’ll lose in Congress because its number is limited to 435 and it won’t be a red state.
These people do not pay FEDERAL INCOME TAX and they are doing everything they can to keep from doing so.

The only way Republicans should ever allow this is if California is spit up into two states: The Coast and South (Liberal LA-SF-SD) and the East and North (Rural-Conservative). That would be a fair trade off since Republicans would retain many house seats, and gain 2 Senators as well.

Cut Puerto Rico loose. It is a drag on the economy and is little more than a third world gang run hell hole.

Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said. [Rand Paul: Time for GOP to soften war stance]

One day after announcing on his radio show that he is "truly considering" running in 2014 for the U.S. Senate seat now held by New Jersey's Frank Lautenberg, Rivera amped up his message today in a television interview and a column on the Fox News Latino website... a moderate Republican who is fiscally conservative but also supports gay marriage and Roe v. Wade... [Geraldo Rivera declares himself a 'moderate Republican' as he eyes U.S. Senate run]

You are absolutely correct, Puerto Rico should be permitted to be an Independent Nation because that is what they want now and have always wanted since their first revolt for freedom on Sept. 23, 1868. They spoke spanish then and they still speak it now. We should have set them on a course of North American democracy & liberty in 1898, not one of dependency. What were we thinking? Puerto Rico was nothing like Alaska, Hawaii or even the southwest; which were not “westernized”. Puerto Rico had already evolved into a distinct culture, identity and nationality with its own dialect of the spanish language by 1895. Infact Spain acknowledged this in 1897 by making Puerto Rico a sovereign entity with it's own money, postal system and the creation of a militia to defend it's independence which would take place the following year after national elections. However, the Spanish-American war came and Puerto Rico would become “dependent”, not independent. What a fine mess you got us into President McKinley! ps. I did not know "RINOS" went back that far?
