In response to IRS officials today admitting that its agents actively targeted Tea Party groups for increased scrutiny during the 2012 election, TheTeaParty.net, the nations largest Tea Party group, and a subject of IRS inquiries over the past year, issued the following statement...

Damn straight.
Make them fill out an apology in triplicate long form and then use it against them in court.
Second that.
Apparently Obama has been taking lessons from Rush. Clearly leading from behind has been a spectacular fail. Now he is playing Rush’s game: Own it and get in front of it.
This works great if there is no intention of harm. For Obama there is every intention of harm so all he will succeed in doing is pleading guilty to a series of crimes.
A government agency criticized legitimately by a group of citizens that then uses its power to persecute those citizens?
And they think an apology is enough?
Why should a grassroots movement be tax exempt in the first place?
That is just inviting scrutiny.
Ended up getting all the penalties removed however. Sent them a letter they could not refuse.
See question in post #8.
Also, why were they asking you for that info in the first place?
How did they know to whom to send the letter?
We are 501 c.3
They got in touch with our accountant.
The number and address is in out filing.
Excellent question. Here's one of the Articles in the planned Impeachment of Richard Nixon:
1.He has, acting personally and through his subordinates and agents, endeavoured to obtain from the Internal Revenue Service, in violation of the constitutional rights of citizens, confidential information contained in income tax returns for purposed not authorized by law, and to cause, in violation of the constitutional rights of citizens, income tax audits or other income tax investigations to be intitiated or conducted in a discriminatory manner.
Bill Clinton made it a pastime, so siccing the IRS on opponents cannot possibly be a crime.
Why were they asking?
That is what we wanted to know also...... hence forth our answer.....
Pound sand. I was the first one to say it and got the others on board... At first they were thinking why are they asking. I said....WHO CARES..... Don’t give it to them.
I smelled what they were doing before today. Glad that it is official now.
They are letting us know that: they can do it; they did do it; they’ll do it again; and there isn’t a damn thing you can do about it. The 2012 election is over. They won. They’re poking us in the eye with it.
Way to go! Would love to see what was written to back em off.
But the larger question is, why does a group need to be tax exempt or file paperwork?
Mark Levin is going off on this today. Get on his website to listen to his show....or on Itunes Podcast.
All free.
He is PISSED....He was involved in the investigation into the IRS.
We can thank him.
What was the need to be a 501 c 3?
Could the groups associate and function without being a 501 c 3?
Just wondering why, is all.
Concerning groups, anyone that accepts payments or revenue needs to fill out paper work. Even hobbyist are technically supposed to report their hobby income, if any.
I personally think the apology was nothing more than an attempt to distract from the exploding Benghazi situation. The apology really doesn’t mean anything so what was the point?
Because a 501(c)3 is tax exempt. Without it, every bake sale or fish fry your organization holds is taxable.
