I am constantly seeing the same idea repeated in every blog I read, on every site I visit, and in many personal conversations. Libertarian minded people are pushing the idea that someone should never get a graduate degree in liberal arts or even attend college at all if possible. If a person does get a degree it should be in the hard sciences or they should go to a trade school. I for the most part agree with the reasoning behind this. In fact I think that Aaron Clarey makes a very valid point over and over again on his blog Captain Capitalism. He warns young people not to go to college but to look to trade schools and other careers that will be useful in the future. Everything he says there is correct. I see nothing wrong with his logic
I however disagree with him and I want to encourage people who are secular conservatives, Libertarian, and libertarian leaning to seek out higher education degrees in the dreaded liberal arts
especially history, English, education, journalism, film, and media.

At what point do you “come out”? After tenure? So you have to teach Marxist drivel until then?
Given the state of our colleges and universities today, I very much agree with the premise of this article.
Out of seven siblings, I’m the only one who didn’t pursue higher education after high school, and I’m the only one who isn’t a rabid liberal with an umbilical permanently affixed to Big Brother.
I’m also the only one who’s ever started and maintained their own business.
I think that conservatives should approach a new subject, the “de-socialization of America” as an academic study.
Start with the axiom that over time, socialism and national socialism has been introduced to America like an infectious disease. To help heal America by getting rid of this infection, it must be thoroughly diagnosed wherever it exists, isolated, and then a scheme devised to excise it, and replace the space it occupied and heal the damage it caused.
It isn’t a matter of coming out so much as just doing the job
Students appreciate professors that do not push a political agenda.
That the Marxist and fools have stolen my culture and history is disturbing. We have to fight to take it back. In fact the reason that liberal arts are so bad is conservatives studied business and put their personal wealth over their culture. You need to realize where ideas come from. If you can’t control the flow of ideas you can’t ever contain the left.
Yes, very often students should go to a vocational school. But do not think that the left-wing morons are there as well. In fact the left-wing morons are the people working for the accreditation agencies. They will ensure the excrement they want in the curriculum is included some way some how.
Just as an aside. A scientist without ethics (A liberal arts area) ends up helping build the ovens for the final solution. A law degree is basically a social science. Should conservatives abandon the law? What about economics?
Given that most students need 4 years of college to get a high school education, maybe we should drop the leftest courses in high school and skip college for most students.
I am disgusted by the use of the term secular conservatives, as if only non-believers have a right to be educated in the arts. I work in the arts and I’m not secular.
And furthermore, the entire premise is wrong.
The Left took over culture because the non-Left abandoned culture and the arts from sheer philistinism. It’s the fault of our side, not their side. If more people from our side entered the arts, the situation wouldn’t be so unbalanced.
