Eric Carmen/Raspberries: 'Go All The Way' - 1972

Cleveland's own Eric Carmen (and friends)...

Allmusic Magazine had described them as featuring 'exquisitely crafted melodies and achingly gorgeous harmonies...'

The Raspberries drew influence from the British Invasion era -especially The Beatles, other Merseybeat acts, The Who, The Hollies, and The Small Faces... along their 'mod' fashion sense.

Of course later Eric Carmen went on to massive success as a solo balladeer, but the original band has reunited for gigs as recently as 2005- some material from the tour was realeased as Live from the Sunset Strip in 2007.

Below you'll find an amusing appearance on The Mike Douglas Show when the Raspberries were the new guys with a hot hit out in '72: 'Go All the Way'- don't miss the end, where the 23 y.o. Carmen and the rest of the band are introduced to guests Joe Namath and Billie Jean King by Douglas, a real 70s moment (break-out yer headphones and rock on):

I remember when the first album came out. I walked into the record store and immediately caught the aroma of fruit. When I asked the store owner if he was burning incense, he showed me the shipment of albums by this new group, “The Raspberries” each album had a scratch and sniff sticker. I still have my copy and the sticker still had a faint aroma. Very good power pop band.

Too bad Eric Carmen wimped out.

BWAAAAA! Brings back memories. They started out as the Choir, and had a hit with “Baby It’s Cold Outside.” During that time, Wally caught Mono, and had to sit out for a short while. Guess who filled in for him? Me! I didn’t fit particularly well, as I was more Blues based. But I had a short, fun time!

Great song...hard to believe the same guy did “All By Myself” and turned into Barry Manilow.

Gotta watch what ya post on FR... there is ALWAYS somebody who was there! I came up more in the MSB era but that didn't age nearly as well as Joe Walsh or Raspberries, as far as Clevo bands go

“Gotta watch what ya post on FR... there is ALWAYS somebody who was there!”

What I posted is the truth. And,,,, Joe Walsh and I met during Freshman orientation week at Kent State. We were trying out for the same bands. I went with Walt Tiburski, who became General Manager at The Buzzard. Walt got me the short fill-in with the Choir. Joe burrowed one of my Dr. Z amps for his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I’ve been around. Recorded with Melodic Metal master Neil Zaza, who is my best bud. I don’t lie!

Joe created his first band at Kent, The Measles! He was always funny as heck! When the Vox company made the Super Beatle amps, Joe had a local guy make Super Measle amps. They were about 7 feet tall!

“I still have my copy and the sticker still had a faint aroma.”

Local radio show plays re-runs of the top 40’s through the decades on Sundays. Last week they had Casey Casom (sp) talking about how some customers fainted from the scent on the Raspberries album and they stopped adding it.

Well, I respect his ballads, they’re not garbage- tho truth be told, not to my own taste in a big way

BUT... the Raspberries rocked, here’s another GR8 Raspberries jam:

The early 70s were great. So many well known acts, but other wonderful lesser acts like Badfinger, Three Dog Night, Gilbert O'Sullivan, and countless one-hit-wonders.

Songs like, "My Maria," "Ride Captain Ride," "Come and Get Your Love," and "Oh Babe, What Would You Say?"

I miss those days!
