TIME Magazine's Joe Klein appeared on Chris Matthews' weekend show Sunday, where he asserted that it is "crap" and "anti-American" to think the government might become oppressive.
"...What do they need all those bullets for? I guess they just don't feel very strong," he began, laughing as he argued that we have become a "lot more wimpy" as a country because "these gun advocates at the NRA want these semi-automatic weapons."
When Matthews asked how the "cowboy culture" factors in, Klein responded:
Well, I think that that's at the root of it, but there's something else that's going on now that is really, really dangerous, and it's this festering sense that we need to have these semi-automatic weapons because the government in Washington is about to oppress us....

Joe is a naive nut job.
"...What do they need all those bullets for? I guess they just don't feel very strong "Oh sure, we can all be strong like Hulk and the bullets of the police and armed forces bounce off us, right? Puny Klein (and the name Klein means little, too).

Not only is he ignorant, he's arrogant. It's a deadly combination.
All I have heard all of my adult life is how the government is oppressing the preferred groups. Now that they have the reins it is un-American to say that. How un-American.
Just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean that they’re not out to get you.
This is just one element of the coming vicious media propaganda campaign against gun owners. Biden got into the act today and it’ll be a continuous drumbeat of “paranoid,” “black helicopters,” “wingnuts,” etc. Democrats excel at propaganda and character assassination.
Hitler never thought he was oppressing his people, either. Stalin, on the other hand, didn’t much care. The arrogance of the self-enamored.
Of course, it’s always “anti-American” to question the government...except when a republican is in office.
By the way, anyone besides me notice that “patriotism” is being thrown around more and more by the government...similar to how often it was thrown around in Atlas Shrugged?
So let me get this straight, Joe’s using his 1st amendment right to belittle our 2A right?
Actually, it’s anti-American to think that the government is your friend, who has your best interests at heart and might never oppress you.
If ol’ Joe (and I!) lives long enough to see another Repub administration, ask him then if he thinks our government can’t get “oppressive”. Bet he’ll consider it possible then!
Reminds me of the line the interrogator used in “The Lives of Others”:
“If you think our humanistic system capable of such a thing, that alone would justify your arrest.”
Hey Joe, what about Joe McCarthy? Liberals have always complained about the evil mcCarthyism.
Joe is not naive. He’s part of the media who’s job has become to put a positive spin on growing Liberal statism. It’s simply more of the same — allow the growing statism to continue by labelling all who oppose as crazy. It scares some people away from taking an anti-government position for fear of being seen as insane.
Japanese Americans will never ever watch your show again.
Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. This is not to say that firearms should not be very carefully used and that definite safety rules of precaution should not be taught and enforced. But the right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against a tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible. - Sen. Hubert H. Humphrey Jr.
Well, OK, he was one of yours.
