13 Killed in Rampage Shooting in Serbia, Under Strict Gun Control
Gun Watch ^ | 10 April, 2013 | Dean Weingarten

Draconian gun restrictions do not stop mass public shootings. Yesterday, in Serbia, where semi-automatic and automatic rifles are outlawed, and licenses to own firearms are only issued when the Ministry of the Interior determines that the the applicant has a valid "need", a man went on a rampage near Belgrade, killing 13 people.

The 60 year old man who did the shooting was reported to have a license for the handgun used.

Doesn’t Serbia have the 5th highest gun ownership rate in the world? The laws can’t be that restrictive.

The laws are quite restrictive, they just are not obeyed.

“GunPolicy.org also lists Serbia’s gun laws as restrictive, meaning that a person seeking to buy a firearm must provide the licensing authority (in this case the Ministry of Interior) with evidence of good character as well as a valid reason why a firearm is needed. After approval, licensed firearm owners are permitted to own as many firearms as they want, but are limited to sixty ammunition packages per calendar year. They can also apply for permits allowing them to carry their firearm in plain view in a public place or keep it hidden. However, semi-automatic assault rifles and all types of automatic firearms are banned for civilian use.”
