Telling them how, not what, to think
How is it that when a person disagrees politically with a teacher, suddenly said teacher is indoctrinating students instead of teaching them?
OK, I admit it: I indoctrinated students. I indoctrinated them that their job was being a student. Instead of a check, they got paid every nine weeks with a report card. At the end of four years service, they got a bonus: a diploma.
I indoctrinated them by telling them to consider their paycheck an investment account that, once earned, no one could take away from them. I told them a diploma didnt make them an educated person, but it was evidence of perseverance, and was a step in their lifelong education in Reality 101.

If you lay out the facts, and teach the kids how to think about those facts, then I don't think there is much of "doctrine" involved, so you are not indoctrinating anyone.
On the other hand, if you throw all the facts out the window, and say that those things don't matter, then layout the doctrine "People are evil. We cause global warming. The oceans are rising because your mom drives an SUV" and if you browbeat anyone who tries to bring a fact into the discussion -- then that is "indoctrination". It's not how how to think at all -- it's about how NOT to think.

You nailed it- look at Obama- he was never taught HOW to think, only WHAT to think.
He knows one answer to every problem- more government.
I believe he is responding to having been accused of indoctrinating his students into NOT blindly accepting what others tell them to think. It was a sarcastic response.
A teacher like this has become all too uncommon.
