The Colorado government, now completely run by Democrats, has done an about-face regarding civil unions for gay couples. Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper signed a bill allowing same-sex civil unions roughly a year ago after the same idea went down to defeat in what was then a Republican-led House. But last November Democrats won the House, having control of the Senate already, and the new alignment allowed the bill to be passed. It will go into effect May 1.
Most of the Republicans in the state government held fast against the measure because they wanted religious exemptions granted to those who oppose same-sex unions. Although churches are exempt, businesses and adoption agencies are now subject to the new law.
Colorado has been a center for the battle over same-sex civil unions for decades. In 1992, an amendment was passed banning municipal antidiscrimination laws. In 1996, the Supreme Court ruled that law unconstitutional.
Now Colorado is the ninth state to accept same-sex civil unions or laws that essentially allow the same thing.
The new law means that gay couples have rights to enhanced inheritances and parental rights, just as heterosexual couples do.........

The voters of Colorado are close on the moron-meter to Massholes. How the hell did Ferrandino, who is essentially a member of NAMBLA, get to be Speaker? And what reason would anyone have to vote for Dickenlooper? Crazy. Beyond crazy.
You think people would learn.
Democrats NEVER campaign on the issues they believe in.
Draconian gun control laws and forcing the gay agenda down your throat. How many remember those democrat campaign ads?
The best advice is to NEVER elect them in the first place.
Does anyone REALLY think they'll stop at civil unions?
The migrant population from CA... and utter stupidity.
I can live with gay marriage -- barely -- but gay adoption crosses a line that shouldn't be crossed. Children shouldn't have to pay the price for this stupid postmodern caprice.
On Michael Brown’s radio show on 630 AM todat he asked people to call in about the gun ban and boycotting Colorado. Many called in and said the liberal direction of the state left them no choice but to move to a better state. I chose to fight until the 2014 election and stay/move based on how the results work. But I will move to Wyoming before the libtards make me like gay marriage or charge me with a hate crime.
Well, the adoption issue will be a big one, as we move towards homosexual marriage in all 50 states. It will be seen as discrimination to prefer traditional married couples for adoption. The handwriting is on the wall on-this issue.
The liberals have told us that civil unions are separate but equal. Why is Colorado doing this instead of full blown homosexual marriage????
Passing civil unions is simply the set-up to the homosexual activists then suing for same sex “marriage,” claiming they are discriminated against because they can’t “marry.”
They probably have something in their constitution reserving marriage to a man and a woman. Once they have civil unions, the activists can sue claiming the constitutional provision is unconstitutional.
Repulsive beyond words.
A once hearty, rugged, westerny pioneer state turns into a degenerate cesspool of faggoty, gun-grabbing, hippie-dopehead scum. I always loved driving through Colorado on my near-annual drives out west, checking out the historic sites and natural beauty. It’s an abomination what has happened to it, thanks to the infestation of liberal maggots.
The liberals have told us that civil unions are separate but equal. Why is Colorado doing this instead of full blown homosexual marriage????
If the vermin could, they would. I'm sure homosexual so-called "marriage" is next on the leftist extremist agenda, to be followed by polygammous and polyandrous so-called "marriage," legalization of bestiality, legalization of pederastry, and...
Well, since the American Academy of Pediatrics said they’re just as good as regular non-deviant parents, it must be true!
I will move as soon as my principal property reaches a certain price point...Then It's off to Montana or Wyoming. I'll sell the mountain property after that to some California jack-off who likes the environs enough to begin changing it into a nightmare. By then I hope to be close to checking out. Not bullish about the future. Having said that, if the shooting war starts relativly soon - I'll stay and fight!
Any state attempting to pass a marriage amendment which doesn’t also preclude these arrangements might as well not pass anything at all.
CO has a marriage amendment to their constitution, which is worthless because it can be neutered with civil unions granted every “right” of real marriage. Smart state legislatures anticipated this and crafted water tight amendments.
So long as they don’t use magazines with over 15 rounds.
Texas prevents any subunit of government in the state from recognizing "same-sex marriage" or even civil unions or giving benefits based on such status. This prevents the Peoples Republic of Austin from recognizing "same-sex marriage". It also prevents the University of Texas from giving employee benefits to same-sex couples.
