That’s how I feel about Tudor history. We all know Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn and Queen Elizabeth the first. But there is SO MUCH MORE in the 100 years throughout that time that influenced not only Europe, but America eventually as well! Policies that ran people into Ireland, Dutchland, etc... Just amazing how one family can influence the world decades after their death. Right on down to the translation of the KJV of the Bible after Elizabeth made King James her heir and successor. Fascinating stuff when you get into the nitty gritty.

This Protestant prefers the 1985 “New Jerusalem Bible” and the 1995 edition of Zonderman’s “NIV Study Bible.” But for reading as lectionary, I often preferthe King James version.

And an occassional dip into “The Message” new testament by Peterson

Sounds like the stuff that happened when Jesus Christ Superstar was playing at the Mark Hellinger Theatre. The actor who played Jesus kept hearing a magisterial voice in his dressing room, saying something like "Why do you mock my son?" Actor quit but subsequent actors kept hearing the voice. Actors being a superstitious lot, the play finally closed. Not only did it close, but the theater then had trouble getting anyone to back any show at the theater. The theater then became

Times Square Church.

Mark Burnett, I believe he was Letterman’s producer years ago, also had the TV show “Ed”. Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.

“Additionally, I view this series as offering water to a man dying of thirst. Those who reject it because of “you’re not using the proper type of glass for serving water” mentality are willing to deny the Word of God to those who only know how it is misrepresented.”

The “History” Channel is far from a good or reliable source for the word of God. As for your thirst analogy you should substitute poisened water for the “improper container”.I ignore the “History” Channel because I can't rely upon what they air as truth. Too many times I have seen leftist propaganda paraded as fact. As it is your last sentence quoted above makes no sense that I can see but misrepresenting The Word of God AT ALL is an unimaginable sin. Whether this was actually done in the production in question I neither know nor care, as, as i have said, the source is beneath consideration in the first place.

Oh I would never watch a non Catholic version of the Bible.

So, you're using gutter language, nitpicking various details and complaining about what you feel is an overstatement of viewership, of a show you've never watched bcause you believe it to be ... what? Protestant?

It’s neat to get inspired to delve into things you never got in school....
I like to think that an active mind finds inspiration in anything, anywhere at anytime, at any age. Thanks for your story.

history channel is broadcasting what seems to be an independent production. this is no more troublesome than using the oprah channel, or maybe msnbc ~ after all, they have nothing worthwhile on that channel.

In a different venue there's a basketball game on in a tournament ~ and they are going into their SECOND OVERTIME!!!

Zowie!!!

Everyone does that all the time. So what’s it to you? I bashed Brokeback Mountain too and did not see it. I guess you were bashing people for their opinion on that movie too? Hypocrite much????

Brokeback Mountain was homosexual propaganda. We're discussing a show on History Channel called The Bible, and you're using foul language, nitpicking details when you've never seen it and even claiming that the ratings of it are a lie, apparently because you believe it to be a Protestant representation.

Do you see the difference?

In my opinion the Jerusalem Bible is a much better, more accurate translation than the New Jerusalem Bible. As for NIV, some have heard me say that the letters stand for ‘Not Inspired Version’. And btw, I am a christian, and a catholic (small c), as the word pertains to the whole body of Christ.

You don’t make the rules. I am able to express my opinion regardless if you like it or not. I wonder if you live in America or are a foreigner.

Oh, you’re certainly entitled. But, I’m also permitted to point out the stupidity of those opinions.

Funny how that works.

What’s unintentionally hilarious about all this, is that Roma Downey is Catholic. The series really isn’t all that sectarian.
