consceratives and gun owners should point out that the average response time to a 911 call is ____ and that having a gun is equal to being a police force, a neighborhood watch, a citizens on patrol - especially when it is YOU that is udner attack.
The liberals choose not to understand it.
I think it's not that they don't understand it. I think they understand it perfectly.
It's that they just don't like it.
The problem with the above statement from the OP is that it assumes that people have actually read the 2nd Amendment.
And then there is the problem of people not understanding 2A in the context of the history of the BoR and the Constitution even if they do read 2A. This is because people need to understand the Founding States' division of federal and state government powers along with post Civil War 14th Amendment in order to get a grip on the scope of 2A today.
I just cannot find any ifs, ands, or buts, etc. in the Second Amendment—wtf am I doing wrong!!!!!
Semper WTF!

Nothing. It is legalism.
Did you have have a bratty kid try to argue your instructions were not specific enough or to twist the meanings of the words? That is what is going on here.
'Well regulated' means something different now than it did then. So I think that's one part they don't understand.
And, there's that whole 'Shall Not Be Infringed' thing...
Those who profess to not understand it are on the side of those very tyrannical forces the 2nd Amendment is designed to protect us from (though they may not know it consciously).
jfd1776, Thank You so much for posting this great article!

When speech is limited. It is limited in its ill use, such as screaming fire in a crowded theater. We do not criminalize the word “fire” itself, only its ill use.
In that respect, the ill use of weapons is already highly restricted in a manner that everyone agrees with. Murder, armed robbery, etc. are a felonies.
“What Part of the Second Amendment is so Hard to Understand?”
The meaning of the words: “The right of the people to keep and bear arms”. And I mean the meaning of those words taken together as a concept.
Some people say that “The right of the people to keep and bear arms” is limited by the property rights of real property owners, but that is not evident from the words themselves. So, what is the meaning of the words?
