The problem with the above statement from the OP is that it assumes that people have actually read the 2nd Amendment.
And then there is the problem of people not understanding 2A in the context of the history of the BoR and the Constitution even if they do read 2A. This is because people need to understand the Founding States' division of federal and state government powers along with post Civil War 14th Amendment in order to get a grip on the scope of 2A today.
