Didn't know the Marines had to take the bolts out of their rifles for the Inaugural, an email forwarded to Gun Rights Examiner from a United States Marine Corps source observed. Wonder if someone can explain why [they] would be marching in the inaugural parade with no bolts in their rifles!
The email linked to a YouTube video of the 57th Presidential Inaugural Parade, embedded in this column, featuring Bravo Company Marines from the Marine Barracks Washington. Sure enough, the observation in the email is confirmed by watching the video, with screen shots provided in the photo and slide show accompanying this article.
The few, the proud, the ... untrusted?

SAC HQ “sequestered” a very large number of active duty military members with exceptionally high security clearances, during a “Carter visitation” to Offutt AFB.
And none of us were openly armed with DOD issued weapons!
Carter was the first POTUS who needed to do this, to my knowledge.
Obama is only the second. And yes, it is needfull, from an unconstitutional, anti-USA CINC perspective.....
This -——This is a travesty. This is—I am speechless. This is not the action of a man but of a scared child. Can you imagine Reagan requesting his Marines weapons be disabled?
I am ashamed
“What does the administration know about the military that we dont know? “
It was Clintoon who “disarmed” all of the military bases, and put all arms under lock and key with administrative controls. This enabled Hassan, but kept the government safe from a coup.
It was reported that US troops had their rifles disabled in a similar manner when Slick Willie visited them in the Balkans...
Allows the appearance of comraderie and trust, but prevents any possibility of their use...
Paranoia, lack of trust, shaming of the military, or Secret Service SOP?
Caligula was assassinated by his own Praetorian Guard.
Just one more bit of proof that Barry’s a (commie) coward.
Yes, but that was Caligula!!! Uhhh, ok, never mind.
Yes, keep tabs on his well-being.
During the 200th celebration of the Battle of Yorktown, The President was present as was Mitterand of France and the Spanish leader too. The British declined to attend.
The Secret Service had all the reinactors remove their flints from their guns.
Wonder if someone can explain why [they] would be marching in the inaugural parade with no bolts in their rifles!
Easy enough - the bolts were taken out because the president’s a weenie, despite all his “skeet shooting.”
The military never marches in parades with loaded weapons.
I don’t know if they’ve removed the bolt, but they aren’t going to shoot anything. But everything is a conspiracy these days.
I was attending the USAF Academy when JFK was assassinated in 1963. We had fully functional M-1 rifles at the time. Shortly afterwards, all of the firing pins were quietly removed, thus disabling them. This was for the Secret Service’s peace of mind I suspect. Later on my son reported that the barrels were “plugged”, a common method of “DE-militarization”.
I suspect removing the bolts, as in this case, is an easily reversible method of making the weapons “safe” for dignitaries watching military parades, etc. unlike the more permanent disabling of the weapons described above.
My guess is that he (or, more likely the SS) is frightened one of those patriotic warriors might do something... rash.
M1 Garand - looks to me like the operating rod is retracted and the bolt is open (not missing). Maybe some old rifleman can correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t see anything funny about that.
Loathed by their own Commander in Chief
Muzzie payback for the Marine’s from the battle of Derne along the Barbary Coast in Tripoli in 1804. My guess~
Well said. He must know this at some level. My guess is about 80% will say NO, the other 20% will do whatever he says because they're liberals.
Way back in 1972 I marched with the bolt in my M-14.
In 1973 they had us take the firing pins out. That took an armorer about 5 minutes per gun, and the rifle looked much the same, but couldn’t fire.
No, you can see where the operating rod is forward. I think these rifles are M-14s.
The good news is they have bayonets...and the ‘shoulder thing that goes up’... so they sure look tough!
