Now they’re in the barn with a bowl of cat food, and container of milk.

Last year we had a stray cat that showed up on our deck. I left food out for him every day (usually the dry food my cats left over in their bowls from the day before) but then supplemented with a cheaper cat food as he started showing up regularly. I never could get him to let me get near him. One night, there was a ruckus and lots of scuffling and hissing and growling on the deck. I turned on the light and, sure enough, it was a possum and that cat fighting over the food! He stopped coming after that and I quit leaving out food as I was NOT going to feed possums and raccoons and no telling what else. I already spend a fortune on wild bird seed and I get rid of old bread and crackers by leaving them out for the squirrels. The squirrels and crows fight over that, even. My two indoor kittehs sure have it good!

This joke is so old that the last time I heard it I laughed so hard I fell off my dinosaur.
At least I think it was a dinosaur.
