Get Over It! We Are Not All Created Equal
Women can conduct and lead combat operations; that is not the issue.
Author: Capt Katie Petronio
The Marine Corps Times recently published a handful of articles in regard to opening Infantry Officer Course (IOC) to females and the possibility of integrating women into the infantry community. In mid-April the Commandant directed the integration of the first wave of female officers into IOC this summer following completion of The Basic School (TBS). This action may or may not pave the way for female Marines to serve in the infantry as the results remain to be seen. However, before the Marine Corps moves forward with this concept, should we not ask the hard questions and gain opinions of combat-experienced Marines (male and female alike) as to the purpose, the impact, and the gains from such a move? As a combat-experienced Marine officer, and a female, I am here to tell you that we are not all created equal, and attempting to place females in the infantry will not improve the Marine Corps as the Nations force-in-readiness or improve our national security.

Excellent.
Only if ALL soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines meet the same physical standard will there be true “equality”. Giving the women an option not available to the men (meeting a different standard) is the EPITOME of inequality.
“James Webb, the highly decorated Vietnam Marine vet who just retired as Democratic senator representing Virginia, penned a famous Washingtonian article in 1979 entitled “Women Can’t Fight.”
The article has haunted Webb and probably stopped any chance he had of being Obama’s 2008 running mate. In it, he argued that “no benefit to anyone can come from women serving in combat” and that “their presence at institutions dedicated to the preparation of men for combat command is poisoning that preparation,” in particular Webb’s alma mater, the Naval Academy at Annapolis.”

Agreed.
And would add the gals also need to register for the draft (and be available for the draft)to get the federal goodies. just like the guys.
“The administration has promised that there will be no reduction of physical standards to accommodate women in combat roles, but that promise almost certainly is false and Senator McCain, who has endorsed the move, should know better than to pretend otherwise. The political mandate to integrate women into the military had disastrous consequences for standards at West Point, as Walter Williams documented the last time we had this debate. The use of gender-specific physical standards meant that female candidates were given passing marks on tests when underperforming their male counterparts on such common benchmarks as push-ups, sit-ups, and running 1.5 miles.”

Thank you for your service and your courage, Capt. Petronio.
As a Citizen I apologize in advance for both the discharge and the severe media bludgeoning that are surely headed your way.
This idea that every single person has a right to live any life they want and never be offended or rejected is STUPID.
When I was a toddler I had a game with painted wood blocks that fit into different shaped holes. Maybe we should make those games available to liberals that are not able to grasp the concept of being judged on ability and character.
And stop over using the word FAIR. Life is not fair. Changing rules or lowering standards in the "name" of fairness will never make it so. In fact every piece of legislature that includes the word "fairness" in it should be burned and it's author removed from office.
I have no problem with women flying fighter jets or any MOS that does not require great strength and in particular upper body strength. I sure as hell do not want her beside me on the battlefield. She would not be able to drag my wounded bleeding ass off the battlefield if I were shot.
My son was a combat medic, two tours of Iraq. He is also a weight lifter. His unit took good care of him on patrol. They did not want him hurt. They knew he could pick them up and run and also patch them up if shot.
“Changing rules or lowering standards in the “name” of fairness will never make it so.”
Nicely put
” She would not be able to drag my wounded bleeding ass off the battlefield if I were shot.”
The same thing applies to firefighters today who know that their politically correct firefighter next to them would be unable to even attempt to drag them to safety in a critical situation.
Webb was a disaster, IMO, as a Senator from VA but I liked his book and his time in the Reagan Administration in DOD. Since the article was written in 1979, he had not figured out the NewSpeak way to ensure continued political viability but he certainly spoke the unvarnished truth.
“This idea that every single person has a right to live any life they want and never be offended or rejected is STUPID.”
Shorten that up a bit and you’ve got yourself a nice little free enterprise machine of a bumper sticker. Dead on.
