“The Club for Growth will not oppose tomorrow’s vote on the debt ceiling,” Club for Growth President Chris Chocola said in the statement. “The Club for Growth will, on the other hand, strongly oppose any efforts during the upcoming debate over the continuing resolution and sequester that fail to arrest out-of-control spending and put sensible limits on the growth of government.”
That's a major reversal for an organization whose primary mission is to force lawmakers to curb government spending.
Until now, Club for Growth has demanded that any vote to increase the debt limit include a balanced budget amendment. The last time Republicans tried to raise the debt ceiling, during the August 2011 budget battles, Club for Growth came out strongly against the deal, even though it included $1.2 trillion in discretionary spending cuts.

What about Paul Ryan, showing up at the inauguration and wondering why the Democrats booed him? I think we thought Ryan was a more sturdy force than he is.
I’m not sure about this. Maybe Boehner is right to make a short-term retreat and wait for a better opportunity.
Maybe BO has the upper hand. We know that he’s ruthless— maybe the ‘pubs think he’s too powerful at this point to play chicken with. What could BO do if Boehner fought him to a draw? He might declare an emergency... his boys have re-written most of the guidelines and made subtle changes that have placed unprecedented power in his hands.
Consider what it would take to reverse such a coupe. Sure, the courts could declare it unconstitutional, but that could take years. And, who controls the courts? Justice department? The press?
The key is public sentiment. BO is riding a wave right now; he’s still popular. All we can do is hope and pray this doesn’t last, that reality will set in and turn popular sentiment against him.
Grim scenario, and I hope I’m wrong. But we ought to consider the possibility. These are dangerous times.
The GOP has had the support of conservatives. What have they done with it? They've made deals. They've helped to piss away our children's future. And, if we support them again, will they rig the process so a faux-conservative like Lindsay Graham or Chris Christie gets the nomination in 2016? Forget it.
You got it all wrong Jim. I had Freepmail last night assuring me on good authority that JonBon is really conservative and the problem is ‘herding cats’. So you see, this is all our fault for not doing the conservative thing and supporting the cave in as it is the conservative thing to do.

Weren’t we told just a little while ago that, although the Republicans caved on taxes, the real fight would be over raising the debt ceiling? This is laughable. Since no one is listening to our point of view, we may as well start a third party.
I think they should raise the debt ceiling to one nonillion dollars, you know, as a protest. Plus, it would be fun and educational.
It is a tenet of liberalism that every day is brand new. History begins when you wake up. Nothing that was said before you woke up today ever happened, ergo you can’t be held to it. That is how they ignore anything they ever said or did with a straight face.
The GOP has adopted this wholeheartedly. The proof is in the fact that they copy Democrat implementation of the tactic to the letter.
Its now 4 months later and what will they do now that Harry Reid still will not allow a budget to pass? There is a debt limit ceiling that will expire within hours, and the democrats, the president, the media are all crying the sky is falling, the republicans are racists and taking us back to the bad old days of the South, and so on and so on. What do you think is going to be the end result? You think Bone Head will hold his ground? Really???????? When you cede the high ground that means you either give it to your enemy or the enemy eventually comes and takes it unopposed. And if the high ground is the only strategic advantage you have over your enemy and you cede it, what does that leave you with????? Try nothing at all.
Well this is exactly what they have done time and time again. And each time the Left gets more and more of the high ground while we retreat to lower quarters. To put it into laymen terms, there power over the state and the people increase. We keep giving them more and more rope so they can eventually hand us with it and I mean that quite literally. These are not nice or good people we are dealing with here.
Scott Walker and Rand Paul are Conservative enough for me. But not the rest of your useless log cabin fags like Christie and Jeb. You RINOs managed to drive this Conservative away from the GOP, nor will I be the last.

Paul Ryan knew exactly why they booed him, but he's a classy enough person to attend the Inauguration of the President of the rival party, anyway. He made the statement very clearly that he doesn't agree with Obama, and will work against his policies, but the Inauguration of the President is an important event, because it represents the liberties we have as citizens to vote, every four years, on a new leader.
Sadly, too many of those who opposed Obama didn't bother to get out and vote against him, so we're stuck with him for another four years.
I think we agree. I am fine with a small increase in the ceiling. I see it being framed as ‘waiving’ or removing the ceiling for a short time. It needs to be clearly framed as congress raising the debt ceiling a small amount. If we waive it, it will come back later as something that should just be removed all together. The left has already been arguing for that for the past year or two to give the executive branch more unfettered power. The congress needs to clearly assert it’s rightful roll in managing the debt ceiling.
I am not totally against a small raise as a ‘token gesture’.
