As discussed before, Senator Dianne Feinstein's (D-CA) proposed legislation to ban so-called "assault weapons" would amount to gun confiscation for many tens of thousands of peaceable, responsible, law abiding Americans. For the rest of the owners of these politically incorrect firearms, Feinstein's (as yet unreleased, but described in some detail) bill would merely mean a requirement for registration with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE).
Saying that the legislation would "merely mean registration" somewhat implies that registration does not lead to confiscation--that ease of confiscation is not, indeed, pretty much the point of registration. That notion is probably a tough sell for anyone who has followed the history of gun politics, both in the U.S. and abroad. Feinstein's home state, in fact, received "extra credit" in the Brady Campaign's ranking of states for anti-gun tyranny, specifically for using the gun registry for the purpose of wholesale confiscations.
Meanwhile, Americans are buying so-called "assault weapons" at a pace never seen before, and gun shows are packed like never before (see sidebar video), with "assault weapons," and ammo in calibers most associated with such firearms being by far the most highly sought items. At Midway USA, a huge online supplier of gun parts, ammunition and accessories, AR-15 magazines (of any size), upper receivers, and ammunition in .223 Remington or 5.56mm NATO are simply not to be had (generally not even via backorder)--and the rest of the gun retail world is in the same boat. One notable exception, by the way, is manufacturer Daniel Defense (known mostly for high-quality AR-15 parts), who had prepared for this, and is still serving the buying public--without a price hike.

If the 0bama regime and other in DC were smart, (and they certainly have proven they aren't), they would look at this phenomena and see that there is much more at work here than people trying to get something that may soon become a rare commodity. They need to evaluate why.
I would like to think American gun owners could do even better...
Dear Mr. Security Agent: A letter to law enforcement concerning gun control
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2975695/posts
A decade ago I wrote the novel Enemies Foreign and Domestic, a tale about how tragic events involving the misuse of firearms can be used by an evil administration to misinform and mold public opinion to support its malign anti-freedom policies.
No, my novel was not predicting Operation Fast and Furious a decade before that covert policy of pursuing gun control under the radar, (which was President Obamas explanation to Sarah Brady for his lack of overt political action). That inter-agency gun-walking policy, remember, resulted in the deaths of over four hundred Mexicans and two U.S. federal agents, murdered in an effort to discredit the Second Amendment and lead to more restrictive gun control laws in America. (If Nixonor any Republican, for that matterwere in office, the intentional bloodbath would be called Murdergate, but todays collaborating Woodwards and Bernsteins are in on the cover-up.)
What would prompt someone to comply with a registration law? The government would be saying, “we don’t know who has one so tell us now if you do in case we decide to take it from you later”. As an example, the vast majority of otherwise law-abiding Americans would not report as income, $500 they won in a private bet. If such an order came down it would be interesting to watch the sale of 6” plastic sewer pipe and end caps. I understand that some people have discovered that sowing bits of scrap metal on their land makes metal detectors a bit less useful. Further, burying plastic bags full of scrap metal will produce a lot of false positives. Just some thoughts.
Why do we use the leftist coined term “Assault Weapons”?
Until the 70s we just called these firearms centerfire rifles.
There will be more mass shootings, and the pitch of the discussion will rise with each one.
Leaving aside the constitutionality of any gun law, I am curious about how they would intend to go after the newly-banned firearms in the urban zones and the rural expanse. Good luck with that. This seems to be a proposed law aimed at white suburbia.
I say that just as the "Fairness Doctrine" was used by liberal/progressives to restrict the First Amendment without having to repeal it --
-- the liberals today are attempting to restrict the Second Amendment by flooding the nation of uninformed voters with screams of "assault weapons" hiding under beds and everywhere just waiting to shoot them.
That reminds me of the time I was taking a polygraph test and the tester asked me if I had ever done anything I didn’t want anyone to know about...after I responded with a yes, he got really upset when I wouldn’t tell him what it was.
Any adult who hasn’t done something he doesn’t want the world to know about hasn’t really lived. For some reason I’m thinking about an old girlfriend who I still think of fondly. Wow, I’m glad there is no video.
Agree. IMHO, these weapons should be referred to as So-called "assault" weapons.
Since some secret government agency will be reading this post (they read everything on FR, didn't you know?), I'll go ahead and get it over with. I admit that I own hundreds of assault weapons:
knives, hammers, hacksaw,
chainsaw, wood saw, chisels,
my truck, screwdrivers, table saw,
meat cleaver, bullwhip, nail gun,
lawnmower, circular saw, golf clubs
and a propane torch.
When you come to my house to confiscate my assault weapons, please bring a large truck. And I'll want a receipt.
I know what you mean. This guy was really upset.
Good point. Just how are they going to enforce their laws in Chicago, New Orleans, East St. Louis and along the Mexican border?
Insanity this is. They want to disarm American citizens who have committed no crimes, but yet do nothing to stop the cartel armies in our country who do actually carry and use real assault rifles.
Correct!
Is it an assault rifle?
Gee I don’t know is a French knife a tool or a weapon? Its a tool if I’m cutting carrots but a weapon if a thug is threatening the kitchen crew during a robbery.
Seems even a rifle used to hunt deer would have a hard time being a weapon. Is the deer counter attacking? If so then yes, but taking the deer for food the rifle is like using an effective tool.
Even in the hands of a trained soldier a dreaded black rifle may be used as much to defend a position and himself than assault anything.
Chances are good that the vast majority of scary black guns in the hands of Americans will rarely be used only for defense, but most often for entertainment. Serious duty knocking down cans, punching holes in paper and even quickly emptying water filled milk containers.
I think we should call them defense rifles, or maybe just accessories used in shooting sports. Sort of like ski poles or scuba tanks
We need to take control of the language.
Remember killing unborn children is described by the media as Pro-Choice
1. A neighbor knows you own guns. He collects a $100 fee for turning you in. Obama's enforcers come to your house. They can't find the guns. They arrest you on suspicion of owning and concealing guns. They tear your house apart, they tear your land apart. Your home is destroyed. You've hidden your guns well off your property where they'll never be found but you are now in jail under arrest. Now you need to hire a lawyer. You've lost your job. Your family is homeless. Now you lose them. Your kids are taken away by the welfare workers.
You see, they know how this works. They know you're defenseless against legal entanglements. Now they may show up at someone's house and kills them on the doorstep. That will certainly send a message,...but he'll be hunted down and arrested or killed. They know you have a career, a family, savings, a home,...and they can get it all anytime they want.
So a few ATF guys are killed in raids. You think Obama cares????? They are just bumps in the road.
This is going to be very interesting to watch. Either they have under-estimated the reaction of gun owners and it will backfire on them with deadly consequences,...or they have a smart game plan to destroy gun owners in this country and they are willing to risk a few dead ATF agents to accomplish it.
Everybody who plans to register their AR raise your hand. Thats what I thought. :)
Not to nitpick but my nearest neighbor is 1/4 mile away and ptobaly has more guns that I do. If it came to it a person could turn in the Mini-14 and keep the AR, AK, M1 whatever, sort of a throw down gun for the Feds. It might be that leaving them a few to find protects the rest. This needs further tactical review but there’s a solution in there somewhere.
Did you ever notice how few butchers get assaulted while they’re working?
